1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They are typically used to remember your choices, measure how the site is used, and serve advertising. Beyond cookies, websites can use related technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage, which store data directly in your browser. This policy covers all of those technologies under the umbrella term "cookies".

2. Legal basis

Storage of or access to information on your device is regulated by Danish Executive Order no. 1148 of 9 December 2011 (the cookie order), which implements article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC. The subsequent processing of personal data takes place under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), in particular article 6(1)(a) (consent) for cookies that are not strictly necessary.

Cookies that are technically necessary for the site to function, including our consent cookie, do not require consent. All other cookies require your active consent.

3. Our consent solution

We use a self-hosted consent solution (Particulair CMP, version 1.0.1) shown as a banner the first time you visit the site. Before you have given consent, we set no non-necessary cookies, and Google Tag Manager fires no statistics or marketing tags.

The banner offers three actions:

  • Accept all — all four categories are enabled.
  • Reject all — only necessary cookies are enabled.
  • Customise — opens a modal where you decide category by category.

We use Google Consent Mode v2, which translates your choice into standardised signals to Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads. Before you give consent, all advertising and analytics signals are denied, and at most GTM sends anonymous, cookieless pings to Google without a persistent identifier.

Your choice is stored in a first-party cookie named particulair-consent. The cookie has a lifetime of 12 months from last update, with path=/, SameSite=Lax and the Secure flag on HTTPS. The content is a base64-encoded JSON with your four category choices and a timestamp.

4. The four categories

Necessary

These cookies are necessary for the site to function and for us to remember your cookie choice. They cannot be turned off. Our consent cookie falls under this category.

Preferences

Preference cookies remember choices you have made about site display, e.g. language or layout. VACE sets no active preference cookies today, but the category is reserved if we later add settings that remember your choices.

Statistics

Statistics cookies are set by Google Analytics 4 via Google Tag Manager and help us understand how visitors use the site. We have enabled IP anonymisation, and GA4's client-level data retention is set to 14 months.

Marketing

Marketing cookies are set by Google Ads via Google Tag Manager and are used to measure the effect of our advertising and for remarketing. Our Weply chat widget also loads under the Marketing category because it sets cookies and similar storage in your browser. You can therefore only use the chat function once you have given marketing consent.

5. Cookies we set per category

The tables below list the concrete cookies and storage entries we set or allow, observed on the site at the time of last update. The list may change when Google or Weply update their products. You can always inspect the current situation in your browser's developer tools under "Storage".

The list is not an exhaustive guarantee. Google may add supplementary cookies as part of its service, and Weply may do the same. You are always in control via your category choices.

6. Withdraw consent

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time. Three mechanisms are available:

  • The floating cookie button at the bottom left of every page.
  • The link "Cookie Settings" in the footer on every page.
  • Any HTML element with the attribute data-cmp-reopen opens the modal. Developers can also call window.particulairCmp.reopen() from the console.

All three paths open the same modal with your current choices pre-filled. When you save a new choice, the consent cookie is updated and the Google signals are re-sent automatically. If you turn the marketing category off, the Weply chat widget is removed from the page immediately, and only returns if you later grant consent again.

You can also delete the consent cookie particulair-consent manually in your browser. The banner will then be shown again at the next page load.

7. Third-party cookies and international transfers

Google Analytics 4, Google Ads and Google Tag Manager are provided by Google Ireland Limited in Ireland and technically operated by Google LLC in the USA. Weply chat is provided by Weply A/S in Denmark. When Google tags fire, personal data is transferred to the USA under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Our privacy policy describes the transfer basis and the status of ongoing legal proceedings in more detail.

This cookie policy is effective from 17 May 2026 and was last updated 17 May 2026. Material changes are flagged with a new "Last updated" date at the top of the page, and you will see the banner again when the change affects your existing consent.
