CONNECT 246 AS

CONNECT 246 AS is an antistatic spiral hose connector specifically developed for industrial vacuum cleaners and dust extraction installations. The AS suffix indicates Anti-Static property: the coupling's surface resistance is specified below 10E9 ohms which is the classic threshold for static-dissipative classification. This means static discharge from the conveyed medium does not build up but is conducted away - a critical prerequisite for dust extraction applications where dust particles can generate significant electrical charge through friction against the hose wall. The construction is highly abrasion-, chemical- and microbe-resistant. 9 dimensions ID 25 to 100 mm. Temperature range -40 to +90 deg C with peak +125 deg C.

Frequently asked questions

What does AS - Anti-Static mean?

AS stands for Anti-Static and indicates the coupling's surface resistance is specified below 10E9 ohms. This is the classic threshold for static-dissipative classification: charge can flow from the surface without building up to levels that could cause sparking. This is particularly important in dust extraction applications where dust particles can become electrically charged through friction - an unconducted charge could in the worst case ignite explosive dust. AS couplings are the recommended solution for these applications.

Difference between AS and EC?

AS (Anti-Static) has surface resistance <10E9 ohms. EC (Electrically Conductive) has resistance <10E3 ohms. AS is static-dissipative - charge dissipates gradually; EC is conductive - charge dissipates practically instantaneously. EC is a stricter classification and required in ATEX zone 0/20 areas. AS is sufficient in less critical ATEX zones (21/22) where dust explosion risk is fundamental but not continuous. CONNECT 246 AS meets AS level; for EC level we recommend CONNECT 240 EC or CLAMP 212 EC.

For which hoses?

CONNECT 246 AS fits the AIRDUC PUR series' AS variants (350 AS, 355 AS, 356 AS) plus vac-truck and sweeper variants typically used on industrial vacuum cleaners. It also fits AIRDUC PVC 341 and 345 in AS installations. 9 dimensions ID 25-100 mm cover the industrial vacuum cleaner's most frequent hose connections.

Should I ohm-test after installation?

Recommended practice. Measure the resistance between the coupling's surface and the earth structure after installation. Values below 10E9 ohms confirm functional anti-static. In dust-exposed installations, dust deposits may insulate contact surfaces over time; periodic re-test with multimeter is good practice. See article 'Know your ohm' for guidelines.
