Specifically regarding the selection and placement of flow aid equipment
Incorrect decisions about flow aid equipment can have serious consequences. In ATEX zones the equipment category must match the zone it is installed in; the wrong category can turn the equipment itself into an ignition source in combustible dust. Vibrating equipment transfers forces into the silo structure, and incorrect sizing or placement is documented to cause cracking and reduced fatigue life. On some materials, fluidisation and air cannons can trigger uncontrolled discharge. And for some materials the right answer is not equipment at all, but a change to the geometry of the hopper. The choice of technology, sizing, placement, installation and documentation is a responsibility that rests with the owner of the facility and the designated technical officer.
