Tiger-Vac CD-55L (DT) EX (MFS) 1/2D

ATEX Zone 21 industrial vacuum cleaner for combustible and conductive dust

The Tiger-Vac CD-55L (DT) EX (MFS) CAT. 2D Z21 is a 3-phase ATEX- and IECEx-certified industrial vacuum cleaner designed for the safe recovery of combustible and electrically conductive dusts in Zone 21 areas. The unit is classified II 1/2D, with an internal Category 1D (Zone 20) rating for the tank and filter chamber and a Category 2D (Zone 21) rating externally, making it suitable for demanding environments containing Dust Group IIIC materials, including metallic and other conductive dusts.

Technical design and filtration

The CD-55L is built as a continuous-duty system with a powerful 3-phase TEFC explosion-proof motor (3.4 kW) and an integrated True Cyclone Separator at the suction intake, reducing filter load and maintaining a stable airflow of 306 m³/h at up to 2,540 mm H₂O vacuum (VRV set to 1,780 mm H₂O). The 55 L detachable recovery tank (DT) and filter chamber are constructed in AISI 304 stainless steel on a heavy-duty powder-coated cart, and the entire system is ESD-safe with a total resistance below 10 ohms and a complete set of static dissipative Ø50 mm tools included.

Star-shaped primary filter with manual shaker

The standard primary filter is a specially developed, static dissipative PTFE-coated star-shaped filter (8-pocket) made of polyester felt with RZ lamination. Combined with the Manual Filter Shaker (MFS), it provides excellent dust release and long service life, even under heavy loading with fine powders such as flour, sugar or pharmaceutical products. Internal Tiger-Vac testing using 15 kg of flour shows that the filter maintains capacity across multiple fillings, and that the shaker system effectively releases accumulated dust after shaking.

HEPA final filtration and options

For applications requiring high-efficiency particle removal, the CD-55L can be equipped with both upstream and downstream HEPA filters. The upstream HEPA assembly offers 99.99% efficiency at 0.3 µm, while the downstream HEPA H14 (11" with gasket) is tested to 99.995% at 0.3 µm (EN 1822, IEST RP CC001), ensuring minimal emissions in environments handling hazardous dust.

Safety, certification and applications

The CD-55L (DT) EX (MFS) CAT. 2D Z21 is third-party certified by LCIE (Notified Body 0081) under LCIE 03 ATEX 6295 X and IECEx LCI 10.0040X. It carries the marking II 1/2D – external Ex h tb IIIC T135°C Db IP65 and internal Ex h IIIC T50°C Da. Designed for dry recovery of combustible and conductive dusts, it supports ambient temperatures from -5 °C to +37 °C (for dry dust collectors). Typical applications include metalworking, additive manufacturing (metal and polymer powders), chemical production, food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and other industrial environments where explosive or conductive dusts are present.

FAQ

What ATEX category and zone is the CD-55L (DT) EX (MFS) approved for?
The vacuum cleaner is marked II 1/2D with internal Ex h IIIC T50°C Da (Category 1D / Zone 20 inside the tank and filter chamber) and external Ex h tb IIIC T135°C Db IP65 (Category 2D / Zone 21 outside). It is therefore approved for safe recovery of combustible dust inside the system and for operation in Zone 21 environments.

Can it be used for conductive metal dust and highly conductive powders?
Yes. The CD-55L is specifically engineered for safe recovery of combustible and conductive dusts (Dust Group IIIC). It features ESD-safe construction, grounding capability and static-dissipative accessories. Proper bonding and grounding of the entire installation must always be ensured according to relevant ATEX/ESD standards.

Which filtration options are available?
The standard configuration includes a static dissipative PTFE-coated star filter with RZ lamination and a Manual Filter Shaker (MFS). Optional HEPA filters include an upstream HEPA (99.99% at 0.3 µm) and a downstream HEPA H14 (99.995% at 0.3 µm).

Is the CD-55L suitable for continuous duty?
Yes. The vacuum is designed as a Continuous Duty system with a 3-phase TEFC explosion-proof motor capable of long-duration operation, assuming proper filter maintenance and tank emptying.

Which industries typically use this model?
Common applications include metalworking and machine shops, additive manufacturing with metal and polymer powders, food and feed production (flour, sugar, starch), pharmaceutical manufacturing, pigment and chemical processing, and general industrial cleaning in ATEX Zone 21 environments.
