What is the material, and why is it important?
The material is stainless steel 1.4404 (= AISI 316L), stamped. This is the highest austenitic steel grade in daily use in the food and pharma industry and is chosen for specific reasons: (1) extra molybdenum content provides better corrosion resistance against chlorides and salt water than 1.4301 (AISI 304); (2) low carbon content (max 0.03%) reduces the risk of sensitisation during welding; (3) approved under 3-A Sanitary Standards and EHEDG for hygienic product contact.
