Why this hose?

PROTAPE® PVC 310 (LD) is a versatile flame-retardant PVC hose that covers a broader range of media types than the PROTAPE® PVC 371 range. Where the 371 range is primarily ventilation, the 310 covers gases, dusts, powders and fibres — making it particularly suited for chemical industry and light-industrial extraction.

UL94-HB is the American flame classification corresponding to "horizontal burning" — the material burns only slowly and self-extinguishes when the ignition source is removed. It's a widely accepted standard in industrial and automotive applications.

A special application is cable protection in X-ray technology, where the PVC wall's dielectric properties combined with the flame retardance make it suitable for protecting signal and power cables in medical imaging equipment.

Where it is used

In the chemical industry the hose typically sits on extraction arms handling solvent vapours — for example in painting facilities, paint preparation or solvent washing stations.

In printing and tobacco industries it's used for process extraction where the medium is a mixture of particles and vapours — fibres, fabric dust and light aerosols are covered without special adaptations.

In X-ray technology it often sits out of sight, as a protective outer cover around signal cables. Here it's the combination of dielectric PVC + UL94-HB that makes it suitable.

In everyday talk we call it a "multi-medium extraction hose" — it covers a broader range than ordinary ventilation hoses.

Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's factsheet. Overpressure and underpressure values are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend.

Standards and compliance

PROTAPE® PVC 310 (LD) conforms to:

  • UL94-HB. American flame classification; HB corresponds to "horizontal burning" — the material burns only slowly and self-extinguishes when the ignition source is removed.
  • RoHS. Directive 2011/65/EU.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). The manufacturer's REACH declaration is available for download.

Help with material selection

Although this hose isn't ATEX-relevant, these two articles provide useful background on electrical resistance and industrial safety — important if you later combine the hose with electrical equipment or work in mixed environments:

Industries that use it

PROTAPE® PVC 310 (LD) is used across industries where multi-medium handling is essential:

In chemical and paint industries it's used for solvent vapour extraction. The PVC wall's chemical resistance covers most organic vapours at operating temperatures.

In printing and tobacco industries it handles mixed media types (particles + vapours). The broad media coverage means the same hose type can be used across multiple processes in the same facility.

In X-ray technology and medical equipment it serves as cable protection — a specialised but important application where the material's dielectric properties + flame retardance are essential.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose is delivered on 10 m and 20 m rolls. We cut to length and fit fittings, sleeves or couplings as a finished assembly.

For cable protection applications we can tailor the length precisely to your cable run.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between PROTAPE® PVC 310 and PROTAPE® PVC 371?

The 310 covers broader media types (gas + dust + powders + fibres) and is flame-classified per UL94-HB. The 371 range is primarily a ventilation hose with NF P 92-503 M2 fire class. Choose 310 for chemical industry and multi-medium extraction; choose 371 for pure ventilation.

What does UL94-HB mean?

Underwriters Laboratories standard 94 — flame classification for plastics. HB corresponds to "horizontal burning" which is the lowest class in the UL94 scale, but still means the material doesn't continue burning after the ignition source is removed. Widely accepted in industry and automotive.

Does it tolerate solvents in liquid form?

It's primarily designed for solvent VAPOURS, not for transport of liquid solvents. For transport of aggressive liquid chemicals choose a CP PTFE or CP HYP hose.

Can I use it as cable protection outside X-ray applications?

Yes, the PVC wall's dielectric properties + UL94-HB flame retardance make it usable as protective sleeve around signal or power cables in most industrial applications. For specific special installations (e.g. halogen-free requirements in tunnels or rolling stock) the material should be cross-checked against local specifications.

Is it ATEX-approved?

No. The PVC wall is insulating without conductive or antistatic properties.

Can I get it with specific couplings?

Yes. We cut the hose to length and fit hose bands, clamping bands, threaded couplings or bayonet solutions as a finished assembly.
