SALDAFORM/RED is the corrugated acetylene welding hose in the classic red colour. Pressure-resistant EPDM construction for oxy-fuel welding, highly flexible and fire-safe. Red colour coding is the international standard for fuel gas (acetylene, propane).

Why this hose?

SALDAFORM/RED is constructed for a specific application where material and temperature capacity must match the requirement. EPDM rubber is chosen because it provides the right balance between flexibility, chemical resistance and temperature capacity.

Continuous industrial operation subjects the hose to daily pressure cycles, mechanical wear and temperature variation. The difference to a standard hose lies in the material's formulation and the reinforcement's dimensioning.

In daily use, the hose's life cycle is 5-10 years depending on load. Preventive maintenance with annual inspection extends the service life.

Where it is used

SALDAFORM/RED is typically used in industrial contexts where a standard hose cannot handle the load. Specific application depends on the variant - see intro for details.

The hose is typically mounted between a source and a destination via metal or polymer couplings. We advise on sizing and couplings.

Welding hoses are safety-critical components. Correct colour coding, coupling integrity and periodic pressure testing are what separate safe from unsafe use. The SALDAFORM series is constructed for professional daily use.

The corrugated construction provides higher flexibility than smooth hose and better recovery after compression. This is critical on construction sites and in workshops where the hose is often run over or lies on sharp edges.

The EPDM wall is resistant to UV, ozone, weather and typical welding-area chemicals (acetone remover, thinner, oil spray). This means the hose can lie out throughout the day without degradation.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose can be delivered cut to desired lengths. The standard roll lengths can be supplemented with shorter pieces or continuous rolls by arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

What do the colour codes on welding hoses mean?

International standard for welding hose colours: red = fuel gas (acetylene, propane), blue = oxygen, black = inert/neutral gas (nitrogen, argon). The SALDAFORM series follows this standard. Correct colour coding is critical to avoid dangerous mixing between combustible and oxidising gases.

Which standards does SALDAFORM comply with?

The hose is constructed per EN ISO 3821 (welding hoses for fuel gases) and DIN 4815 for corrugated welding hoses. Pressure class depends on variant (typically 20 bar working pressure).

Why is SALDAFORM corrugated?

The corrugated construction provides three benefits: higher flexibility than smooth hose (tighter bend radius without kinking), better recovery after compression, and a visual/tactile indication of the hose's orientation that reduces the risk of confusion.

Can SALDAFORM be used outdoors?

Yes - the EPDM wall is resistant to UV, ozone and weathering. The hose can lie visibly on construction sites and under canopies without degradation. Annual inspection of couplings and shutoff valves is recommended regardless of location.

Which couplings are recommended for SALDAFORM?

For fuel gas applications, worm-drive clamps with flame arrestor at connection points to regulator and torches are recommended. NEVER use standard hose couplings without flame arrestor protection on welding hoses - flame spread into the hose is an acute explosion risk.

How long does SALDAFORM last?

Service life depends on usage frequency and storage. Daily professional use typically gives 5-10 years service life. Annual leak test with soapy water is recommended. With visible cracks, peeling or discolouration the hose must be replaced immediately.

Should the hose be tested regularly?

Yes - welding hoses should be pressure tested at least annually (1.5x working pressure). Visual inspection should be performed daily before use. Many European countries have legal requirements for periodic inspection in professional use.

Can the hose be delivered in other lengths?
