NORFLEX® PUR 441 FOOD

Highly flexible food-grade PU hose, extremely abrasion-resistant and crush-resistant. Designed for transporting both dry and liquid food — particularly grain, beverages, dairy products and animal feed. Service from −40 °C to +90 °C, short-term peak +125 °C. The PU wall is microbe-resistant and therefore suited for long-term food installations.

Why this hose?

NORFLEX® PUR 441 FOOD is a transparent food-grade PUR hose with polyester reinforcement. The PU material is at the top of the class for abrasion resistance — typically 3-5 times more abrasion-resistant than PVC or standard rubber at the same thickness. This makes the hose suitable for transporting dry foods like grain, where sand and particle wear quickly damages ordinary hoses.

PUR is also food-grade and microbe-resistant. This means the hose isn't degraded by microorganisms that may survive the cleaning cycle — important in long-term installations where difficult biofilm deposits can build up over time.

The dimension range (2.9 mm to typically 50 mm) makes the hose suitable both for smaller dosing applications and larger transfer hoses. The working pressure is high — up to 20 bar in smaller dimensions — because PU + polyester is a strong construction.

Where it is used

In the beverage industry the hose typically sits in filling lines as a dosing hose for ingredients or concentrates. The transparent construction enables visual flow verification — a simple but valuable function in quality assurance.

In dairy it's used for milk and cream transport between processing stations. Microbe resistance is a plus here, because dairy media are known to promote bacterial growth in leaky hose walls.

In grain and feed it's the first choice when dry granules must be moved in pneumatic transport. PU's abrasion resistance means the hose handles many more transport cycles than ordinary food-grade PVC.

In everyday talk we call it a "food PU" — the robust cousin to silicone hose, used where the medium is slidende or high-pressure pumped.

Standards and compliance

NORFLEX® PUR 441 FOOD conforms to the following:

  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). The manufacturer's REACH declaration is available for download.
  • RoHS. Directive 2011/65/EU on the restriction of hazardous substances.
  • EU 1935/2004. Materials in contact with food; manufacturer's specific food-grade certification available on request.

Help with material selection

Although this hose isn't ATEX-relevant, these two articles provide useful background on electrical resistance and industrial safety — important if you later combine the hose with electrical equipment or work in mixed environments:

Industries that use it

NORFLEX® PUR 441 FOOD is used across the food industry where abrasion resistance and food-grade conformity are essential:

In food it combines food-grade approval with extreme abrasion resistance. This makes it a standard choice on lines that must move both dry granules and periodically liquid media — without changing hose type.

In beverages it's especially popular on filling lines where pump pressure is high and the hose must hold for thousands of cycles. The transparent construction is also an advantage for visual quality control.

In dairy and feed it's used for both liquid and powder transport. The microbe resistance and food-grade wall ensure the hose can be cleaned effectively between batches without developing microdeposits over time.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose is delivered on 50 m rolls. We cut to length and fit fittings, clamps or couplings as a finished assembly.

For serial use we can establish repeatable assembly, giving you consistent assemblies across the delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Is NORFLEX® PUR 441 FOOD approved for food contact?

Yes. The PUR wall meets EU 1935/2004 for materials in contact with food. The manufacturer's specific food-grade certification is available on request.

How abrasion-resistant is the PUR wall?

PUR is typically 3-5 times more abrasion-resistant than PVC or standard rubber at the same thickness. This means the hose can transport abrasive media like grain, sand-mixed media or pelleted materials for much longer before replacement.

Is it microbe-resistant?

Yes. The PUR wall resists microbial degradation — important in food installations where microorganisms can survive the cleaning cycle and form biofilm in leaky hose walls over time.

Does it tolerate hot water for CIP cleaning?

Yes, up to +90 °C continuous and short-term peak up to +125 °C. This covers most CIP cycles. For SIP (Steam-In-Place) at higher temperatures choose a silicone hose (NORFLEX® SIL 408 tolerates +180 °C).

Is PUR better than PVC for food?

Yes, on several counts: PUR is more abrasion-resistant, has a broader temperature range, is microbe-resistant, and has better dynamic flexibility (better for pumps and crush resistance). PVC has lower cost and is still fine for less demanding applications. Choose PUR when the installation is long-term and heavier.

What's the working pressure?

Working pressure varies from 20 bar in the smallest dimensions (Ø 2.9 mm and Ø 4 mm) down to 16 bar around Ø 6 mm and lower at larger dimensions. The full pressure curve is in the dimension table.

Can I use it for alcoholic beverages?

Yes, PUR is compatible with common beverage media including beer, wine and spirits at operating temperatures. For high-concentration ethanol (above 50%) or specific aromatic ingredients you should cross-check in the resistance table.
