PROTAPE PUR-INOX 330 FOOD-AS (LD)
PROTAPE PUR-INOX 330 FOOD-AS (LD) is a highly flexible suction and transport hose that combines food approval per EU 10/2011 Cat E + LFGB + FDA with an antistatic wall below 10⁹ ohm. The hose has an INOX (stainless steel) spiral instead of standard spring-steel wire - critical in food zones where CIP cleaning continuously exposes the spiral to bases and acids. The ATEX qualification covers all dust zones (20, 21, 22) and all gas zones (0, 1, 2) inside - a particularly broad explosion protection for powder and granulate handling in bakeries, dairies and pharmaceutical production.

Why this hose?
PROTAPE PUR-INOX 330 FOOD-AS (LD) is one of the industry's most broadly qualified powder-handling hoses. It combines four properties each required in different industries: food-grade PU, antistatic wall, INOX spiral for chemical resistance and ATEX qualification for all dust and gas zones. In practice this means a manufacturer can use the same hose across powder stations, transport pipes and cleaning cycles without having specialised hoses for each task.
The INOX spiral is the detail that distinguishes this hose from standard PROTAPE PUR-AS variants. Regular spring-steel wire spirals slowly corrode under CIP cycles with hot bases - over 1-2 years of operation, corrosion can become visible as spots or brown discolouration along the spiral. INOX (typically AISI 304 or 316) resists this, and the hose can typically last 5+ years in continuous CIP operation where a standard variant would show visible corrosion signs after 1-2 years.
The ATEX qualification is particularly broad - all dust and gas zones inside and zone 1-2 outside. It happens to cover most of the powder-handling spectrum in food and pharmaceutical production. Many competitor hoses are only qualified for zone 22 (dust) or zone 1-2 (gas), making them unsuitable for pharma's typical zone 21 or zone 1 applications. PROTAPE PUR-INOX 330 FOOD-AS (LD) eliminates the need to evaluate zone-specific alternatives.
Where it is used
Powder stations in bakeries and the milling industry use the hose for transport of flour, sugar, yeast and other raw materials between storage silos and production units. Food approval ensures the hose can be in direct contact with the product, and ATEX qualification covers the explosion risk that fine dust from these raw materials entails.
Pharmaceutical production facilities use the hose for transport of raw materials between weighing stations, weigh hoppers and blending units. The INOX spiral is a standard specification in pharma due to frequent CIP cycles, and food approval is also pharma-relevant as the regulations often reference the same material standards.
Dairies and lactose producers use the hose for powder handling in dry lactose, dairy powder and milk powder facilities. The hose's combined ATEX and food grade plus CIP resistance make it a standard solution in this industry. Some producers use the hose in dry powders over continuous operation for 5-10 years.
The hose is colloquially known as a food-grade PUR hose, INOX hose or powder hose.

Industries that use it
PROTAPE PUR-INOX 330 FOOD-AS (LD) is used where food approval, antistatic function and broad ATEX zone coverage must be combined - typically in bakeries, pharmaceutical production and dairies where powder handling is part of the process.
Food production is the main market. Flour, sugar, grain, cocoa - all powder handling applications have explosion risk from fine dust and therefore require antistatic function + ATEX qualification. At the same time, food approval is required for direct product contact. PROTAPE PUR-INOX 330 FOOD-AS (LD) is one of few hoses that meets both in the same product.
Pharmaceutical production uses the hose for bulk transport of raw materials (lactose, mannitol, acid) and excipients between silos, weighing stations and packaging stations. The INOX spiral is a pharma-typical specification due to frequent CIP cycles, and the broad ATEX qualification covers all zone grades that occur around powder stations.
Bakeries and dairy industries use the hose for local powder transport between silos and raw material stations. Here food approval is critical because the hose is typically in daily operation with direct contact to flour and milk powder. The INOX spiral ensures the hose can be cleaned with CIP cycles without corrosion building up over years.
Custom lengths and assemblies
The hose can be delivered cut to desired lengths. The standard roll can be supplemented with shorter pieces or multiple rolls by arrangement.

Frequently asked questions
Is the hose food-contact approved?
Yes - the hose is tested and approved per EU 10/2011 Category E (dry foods, 5 minutes at 40 C), EU 1935/2004 (general framework for food-contact materials), GMP EU 2023/2006 and German LFGB. It is also approved per FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 for food-contact polyurethanes. This covers direct contact with dry foods such as flour, sugar, grain and powders.
What does the ATEX qualification cover?
The hose is qualified per ATEX 2014/34/EU and TRGS 727 for all dust zones (20, 21, 22) inside and all gas zones (0, 1, 2) inside. This is a particularly broad qualification - most antistatic hoses only cover zone 22 and zone 1-2. The INOX spiral and food-grade PUR combination provides both hygiene and broad explosion protection.
Why is INOX spiral important here?
Standard spring-steel wire is fine in industrial extraction applications, but in food production the hose contacts cleaning agents (CIP bases, acids) that over time corrode non-stainless steel. INOX (stainless steel AISI 304/316) resists this and preserves both structural integrity and hygiene. It's a small but decisive detail for long-term operation in food zones.
What does antistatic mean in a food hose?
Powder and granulate handling is classic explosion-relevant: fine dust from flour, sugar or grain can build up static electricity during transport, and a spark discharge can ignite a dust-air mixture. An antistatic hose (surface and volume resistance below 10⁹ ohm per ISO 8031) discharges the charge to ground before accumulation can occur. PROTAPE PUR-INOX 330 FOOD-AS (LD) is one of few hoses that combines food-grade with antistatic function.
Can the hose be used for CIP cleaning?
Yes - the PU lining is resistant to the bases and acids used in CIP (cleaning-in-place). Standard NaOH solution at 80 C the hose tolerates in brief contact (typical CIP cycles 20-30 min). The operating temperature is +90 C - right at the limit for the hottest CIP cycles, so for higher CIP temperatures (above 95 C) we recommend an EPDM or silicone-based hygiene hose.
Which dimensions are in the range?
24 dimensions from 38 mm to 500 mm inner diameter. This is one of the widest ranges in the PROTAPE family. Standard roll lengths vary from 10 m on large dimensions up to 30 m on smaller. For specific dimensions without pressure rating (often the mid-sized) the hose is delivered as pure transport hose without high-pressure use.
Is the hose suitable for liquid foods?
The EU 10/2011 approval is only for category E (dry foods). For liquid foods (aqueous, acidic, alcoholic, dairy - categories A-D1) the hose is NOT tested beyond Category E. If you have liquid food applications, we recommend a hose with EU 10/2011 Cat A-D1 testing - contact us for the right choice.
Which couplings are recommended?
For food production, hygiene couplings with grounding tab (DIN 11851 or Tri-Clamp with conductive metal insert) are recommended. This ensures both hygienic separation for cleaning and mandatory ground connection for ATEX function. We fit couplings by arrangement, so you get a finished system. Send us your installation and we'll advise.
