EX terminal box in aluminium
Construction and materials
HARDO HTB1A is an explosion-proof terminal box manufactured from copper-free aluminium alloy with less than 0.1% copper content, certified for use in explosive atmospheres in accordance with the ATEX Directive (2014/34/EU) and the IECEx standard. The terminal box is approved for Zone 1, 2, 21 and 22 and is suitable for demanding industrial environments including offshore, chemical and pharmaceutical industries as well as process plants and refineries, where corrosion resistance against saltwater and aggressive media is essential.
The enclosure and lid are manufactured from copper-free aluminium alloy, providing high resistance to seawater corrosion and chemicals. The box can house Ex e and Ex i terminal blocks and can be supplied with a hinged lid, internal mounting plate and cable entry plates. HTB1A is part of HARDO's complete range of increased safety enclosures, also available in GRP and stainless steel AISI 316L.
Applications
The HTB1A series is used for terminal boxes, control stations, instrument housings, disconnectors and switches, battery containers, emergency call units, fuse boards, lighting control and electrical housings for use in hazardous areas. The terminal box can house terminal blocks for conductors with a maximum cross-section of 16 mm², including terminal blocks for intrinsically safe circuits. The box is suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation and is used in offshore, onshore, chemical and pharmaceutical production plants.
Customisation and configuration
HTB1A is available in 17 standard sizes from 80×80×60 mm to 600×600×200 mm and can be further customised within the limits of the certification. The box can be supplied with a hinged lid, mounting plate and cable entry plates for use with Ex cable glands for armoured cable or unarmoured cable. The maximum number of terminal blocks depends on terminal block cross-section, current, box size, operating temperature and required temperature class. FAQ
Which zones is HTB1A approved for?
HTB1A is approved for Zone 1 and 2 (gas) and Zone 21 and 22 (dust) in accordance with the ATEX Directive and the IECEx standard.
What is the IP rating of HTB1A?
HTB1A has enclosure rating IP66, meaning the box is completely dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets. This makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation in demanding environments.
Can HTB1A be used outdoors?
Yes. HTB1A is certified for both indoor and outdoor installation. The ambient temperature range is -50°C to +60°C as standard, and up to +95°C for special models (HT version), making the box suitable for installation in both arctic environments and hot industrial plants.
Why choose aluminium over stainless steel or GRP?
Copper-free aluminium offers an excellent combination of low weight and high corrosion resistance, including resistance to seawater corrosion. This is particularly relevant in offshore installations and other environments where weight is a factor. Stainless steel AISI 316L may be the right choice in the most corrosive chemical environments, while GRP may be relevant where chemical resistance is the priority. Contact Particulair for advice on the right material for your project.
Can the box be customised?
Yes. HTB1A is available in 17 standard sizes from 80×80×60 mm to 600×600×200 mm. The box can be supplied with a hinged lid, mounting plate and cable entry plates. Contact Particulair with your specifications and we will find the right solution.
What information do I need to provide for a quotation?
To enable us to provide a precise quotation quickly, it is helpful to know the box size or internal dimensions, zone classification (Zone 1, 2, 21 or 22), number of units and any requirements for cable entries and mounting plates. Contact Particulair and we will help specify the right configuration directly with HARDO.
What accessories can be used with HTB1A?
HTB1A can be fitted with Ex cable glands for armoured cable and unarmoured cable for safe cable entry. The box is also available with accessories such as hinged lids, mounting plates and cable entry plates. Contact Particulair for advice on the right combination for your plant.
How do I order?
HTB1A is supplied on quotation. Contact Particulair with your specifications and we will help find the right size and configuration.
