AIRDUC® PUR 355 AS (HD)

Heavy-duty antistatic polyurethane hose (HD wall, 1-1.5 mm) for high-throughput conveyance of abrasive media in ATEX zones. The construction is Type 3 to DIN 26057, and the surface resistance below 109 Ω meets TRGS 727 and NFPA 652. With a flame-retardant formulation (UL94-V2 + DIN 4102-B1) and broad ATEX approval (Zone 0/1/2 gas, Zone 20/21/22 dust), it is the industrial default where the medium is particularly abrasive — granulates, sand, fractions — and the dust may develop electrostatic sparks at the same time.

Why this hose?

AIRDUC® PUR 355 AS (HD) is the heavy-duty version of 350 AS (MD): identical antistatic level (<109 Ω), identical flame-retardant formulation (UL94-V2 + DIN 4102-B1), identical ATEX approval — what separates them is wall thickness. The HD construction is specified to DIN 26057 Type 3, where MD is Type 2. That gives higher abrasion tolerance and longer service life with heavy media such as glass beads, sand and metal chips.

In practice the choice between MD and HD is often a question of measured service life, not safety. Both hoses meet the same TRGS 727 and NFPA 652 limits; but the HD wall lasts noticeably longer in applications where the medium hammers the inner wall. For even rougher abrasion loads, 356 AS (XHD) is available in Type 4 construction (1.8 mm wall).

For ATEX applications requiring full conductivity in Zone 0/20 — typically transport of flammable liquids or fine explosive dust types — the EC variant 355 EC (HD) with a <103 Ω wall should be selected instead.

Important context

The hose is one part of a system. ATEX approval requires that the whole system is correctly grounded, and that the resistance through the entire chain (hose, couplings, connections and machine) is low enough to conduct static electricity away. A hose with antistatic or conductive wall in a system without correct grounding gives a false sense of security.

We always recommend a continuity resistance measurement after installation. Read more about the weakest link in an ESD chain.

Where it is used

AIRDUC® PUR 355 AS (HD) is used where an ordinary industrial hose is not enough — either because throughput is too high, or because the process is in an explosion-hazard zone. It covers most industrial dust and granulate processes with ATEX requirements.

In practice we see it most often used for pneumatic conveying of combustible dust and bulk materials between silos and production lines, for bulk-bag (FIBC) handling in filling and discharging operations, and for industrial vacuum cleaners handling combustible material in classified zones.

It is also used for tank truck loading and unloading of chemicals, powder dosing in pharmaceutical and chemical process plants, and sandblasting and grinding where the combination of wear and static dissipation is critical.

The formal name is AIRDUC® PUR 355 AS (HD). In daily use most people call it "the antistatic heavy-duty PUR hose" or simply the "AS-HD hose". It is a workhorse on industrial vacuums, sandblasting installations and pneumatic conveying systems.

Should I choose AS or EC?

The difference between AS and EC is electrical resistance. AS (antistatic) sits at <109 Ω and covers TRGS 727 + NFPA 652 for most industrial dust applications. EC (electrically conductive) sits at <103 Ω and covers full ATEX Zone 0/20 — that is, conveyance of flammable liquids and the most sensitive explosive dust types. Choose AS for Zone 22 / Zone 1-2; choose EC for Zone 0/20 or where flammable liquids are conveyed.

Note: Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's factsheet. Overpressure and underpressure are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose. Contact us for full specifications or special variants.

Standards and compliance

The hose is tested and documented in compliance with the following European and international standards.

  • ATEX 2014/34/EU (1999/92/EC). European directive for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The hose is certified under this legislation and may be used in the zones specified by the ATEX marking.
  • TRGS 727. German technical rules for hazardous substances, avoidance of ignition sources when handling combustible dusts and liquids. The hose's electrical conduction meets TRGS 727's limit values.
  • DIN 26057 Type 2. German industrial standard for hoses used in pneumatic transport. Defines types, dimensions, pressure and vacuum requirements, and test procedures for industrial pneumatic hoses.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). EU regulation on registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals. The hose's materials are REACH-compliant; manufacturer's declaration is available for download.
  • RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU). Restriction of Hazardous Substances — restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in electronic products. The hose's components comply with RoHS limit values.

The hose is not food-grade approved. For combinations of ATEX and food contact, specialty variants are available in the FlexCore range.

Help with material selection

When you select a conductive or antistatic hose, it is not only the hose itself that determines whether the system is safe. These two articles go in depth with two concepts that are often misunderstood, and which are crucial for understanding whether a hose actually works as intended.

Industries that use it

AIRDUC® PUR 355 AS (HD) is used across many industrial settings. Common to all of them is the combination of abrasive media and explosion-protection requirements.

In the chemical and ceramic industries, 355 AS (HD) sits in central extraction systems on powder and granulate handling installations. The heavy-duty wall resists wear from abrasive media at high throughput, where an MD construction would be worn out too quickly.

In the plastics, agricultural and grain industries, it is used for pneumatic conveying between silos and production machines. In construction and mining, it appears on mobile vacuum systems collecting gravel, sand and construction waste.

In the paper and printing industries, it sits in paper-dust extraction. In food and animal-feed industries, it is used for grain, seed and feed handling. In municipal and waste industries, it features on sweeping vehicles and industrial vacuum cleaners. The broad ATEX approval means the hose can be used across all of these — not every application is an ATEX zone, but it is technically ready when one becomes one.

Custom lengths and assemblies

AIRDUC® PUR 355 AS (HD) can be cut to length and assembled with couplings, cuffs and threads to fit your installation precisely. We produce complete hose assemblies with crimped ferrules, clamp collars or threaded connections, depending on what the process requires.

For ATEX installations it is particularly important that couplings and assemblies preserve the hose's electrical continuity. It's about the whole system conducting static electricity away, not just the hose itself.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between AS (HD) and EC (MD)?

The AS variant is antistatic with surface resistance below 10⁹ Ω, while the EC variant is fully conductive below 10⁶ Ω. AS is sufficient for Zone 21 and 22, while EC is required in Zone 20. The HD wall construction is heavier and more abrasion-resistant than MD, ideal for high throughputs.

Can the hose be used for flammable liquids?

Yes. The hose is ATEX-approved for interior conveyance of flammable liquids in Zone 0, 1 and 2. Proper grounding is required for the antistatic property to function in practice.

Is the hose flame-retardant?

Yes. The hose complies with DIN 4102-B1 and UL94-V2 for flame retardancy. It is self-extinguishing and slows flame spread, but flame retardancy does not replace ATEX conformity.

What temperature does the hose tolerate?

The normal operating range is −40 °C to +90 °C. Short-term peaks up to +125 °C are permitted, making the hose suitable for hot processes.

Can AIRDUC® PUR 355 AS (HD) be supplied in custom lengths?

Yes. The hose can be cut to length and assembled with ATEX-suitable couplings and cuffs through Particulair's custom hose assemblies. Maximum production length varies from 20 to 30 m depending on diameter.
