PROTAPE® PUR 330 AS (LD)

Highly flexible antistatic polyurethane hose in light-duty (LD) construction with a 0.6 mm wall. Surface resistance below 10⁹ Ω meets the NFPA 652 thresholds, and the hose is flame-retardant rated to UL94-HB and DIN 4102-B1. The ATEX approval for Zone 22 dust and Zone 1/2 gases, combined with flame retardancy, makes it a workhorse for wood dust extraction, solvent vapour handling and clean rooms.

Why this hose?

PROTAPE® PUR 330 AS (LD) is the classic extraction hose for classified zones where you have to handle both combustible dust and solvent vapours — and meet formal flame retardancy requirements from clean rooms or building regulators.

Three properties work together in the construction. The antistatic wall has surface resistance below 10⁹ Ω, dissipating static electricity when the hose is properly grounded. The flame retardancy per UL94-HB and DIN 4102-B1 means a flame source touching the hose does not spread uncontrolled. The light-duty (LD) wall at 0.6 mm keeps the hose highly flexible and easy to handle even in the largest diameters.

Together they make 330 AS (LD) a pragmatic workhorse. It covers Zone 22 dust and Zone 1/2 gases. For more stringent Zone 20 requirements, 351 EC (MD) is the fully conductive choice; for heavier mechanical wear, HD constructions like 355 AS (HD) are better suited. 330 AS (LD) is the right answer when the combination of flexibility, flame retardancy and antistatic wall is the central requirement.

Important context

Flame retardancy is not the same as fireproof. UL94-HB means the material burns at a limited rate and self-extinguishes when the flame source is removed; it is not a guarantee against fire. The hose is still a thermoplastic material and must not be exposed to open flames or continuous temperatures above +90 °C.

We always recommend measuring loop resistance after installation. Read more about the weakest link in an ESD chain.

Where it is used

PROTAPE® PUR 330 AS (LD) is a workhorse in processes where extraction is run daily in a zone that is both classified and exposed to solvent vapours or fine dust. That makes it well suited for wood industry and parquet sanding, where the dust is combustible and production often happens in classified halls.

In practice, we see it most often used for spray mist extraction at painting and coating lines, for steam soaking where solvent vapours need to be removed, and for clean rooms and clean room ventilation where flame retardancy is a formal requirement.

It is also used for oil mist extraction on machinery, chemical vapour handling in chemical industry, and general extraction in Zone 22 areas where high flexibility is an advantage.

The formal product name is PROTAPE® PUR 330 AS (LD). In daily use, many simply call it "the light-duty AS hose" or "330 AS LD" — the most common flame-retardant extraction hose in the range.

Overpressure and underpressure values are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend.

Standards and compliance

The hose is certified or documented to the following standards:

  • ATEX 2014/34/EU (1999/92/EC). The directive for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The hose is approved for zone 1/2 (gases) and zone 22 (dust, interior).
  • TRGS 727. The German technical rules framework for combustible dust and static electricity. Antistatic hoses have surface resistance <10⁹ Ω.
  • UL94-HB. US classification for flame propagation on horizontal specimens. The material burns at a limited rate and self-extinguishes when the flame source is removed.
  • DIN 4102-B1. German building classification for normally combustible material with limited contribution to fire.
  • NFPA 652. US standard on the fundamentals of combustible dust. Antistatic components have resistance in the 10⁸–10⁹ Ω range.
  • ISO 8031. Measurement of electrical resistance in rubber and plastics hoses.
  • Safety regulations of the German Wood Trade Association. Specifically targeted at wood dust extraction.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006) and RoHS 2011/65/EU. The manufacturer holds declarations of compliance.

Industries that use it

The hose is used across the industries where antistatic extraction combined with flame retardancy is a formal requirement:

Wood industry uses the hose on parquet sanders, joinery shops and large extraction systems, where wood dust is combustible and requires antistatic handling.

Chemical industry and surface technology use it for solvent vapours, painting spray mist and powder coating, where flame retardancy is a requirement in the safety regime.

Shipbuilding and extraction/filtration technology use the hose in confined spaces and centralised extraction systems, where high flexibility and light weight make installation easier.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose can be cut to length and assembled with couplings, cuffs and threaded fittings through Particulair's custom hose assemblies.

We offer guidance on material choice, coupling system and grounding, so the hose fits correctly into the overall system. If there is any doubt about zone classification or resistance requirements, a short conversation before ordering is well worth the time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between PROTAPE® PUR 330 AS (LD) and 330 AS BLACK?

Both are antistatic PUR hoses with the same LD wall (0.6 mm). The difference is mainly in UV properties and dimension range: 330 AS (LD) starts at 25 mm and covers the full range up to 500 mm, while 330 AS BLACK starts at around 50 mm. Standard 330 AS (LD) is flame-retardant per UL94-HB and DIN 4102-B1; the BLACK variant is UL94-HB but does not document DIN 4102-B1.

How effective is the flame retardancy?

UL94-HB means the wall formulation burns at a limited rate and self-extinguishes when the flame source is removed — the lowest category in the UL94 system, but sufficient for most industrial applications. DIN 4102-B1 is the German building classification for normally combustible materials with limited fire contribution. Together they typically cover the requirements imposed in clean rooms and extraction systems.

Can the hose be used in Zone 20?

No. 330 AS (LD) is approved for Zone 22 (dust, interior) and Zone 1/2 (gases). For Zone 20 — the most stringent dust class — a fully conductive (EC) hose should be used, such as AIRDUC® PUR 351 EC (MD).

What temperature range does the hose tolerate?

The normal operating range is −40 °C to +90 °C. Short-term peaks up to +125 °C are permitted. For continuous operation above 90 °C, a TPE or silicone-based hose is recommended.

Can the hose be supplied in custom lengths?

Yes. The hose can be cut to length and assembled with couplings through Particulair's custom hose assemblies. Production lengths are typically 20 m, supplied in 10 m rolls.

What is the hose's expected service life?

Service life depends on operating conditions: loading, temperature, chemical exposure, UV and mechanical movement. In standard industrial use, expected life is 3-7 years. Aggressive conditions (high temperatures, continuous flexing, chemical vapours) reduce service life. We recommend regular visual inspection for cracks, deformation or discolouration.

How is the hose best stored before use?

Store the hose dry, at room temperature (15-25 °C) and out of direct sunlight. Avoid contact with ozone-generating equipment (welding equipment, engines). If stored on a reel, the bend must be larger than the specified minimum radius to avoid permanent deformation. Proper storage significantly extends shelf life.

What is the minimum bend radius, and what happens if I go below it?

Minimum bend radius is the smallest radius the hose can be bent to without permanent deformation or internal damage. The table above shows specific values for each dimension. Bending the hose below this limit can collapse the wall, kink the spiral or damage the inner coating. The result is reduced flow, increased pressure loss and shorter service life. Always use bend radius as a design constraint in installation.
