CP HiTex 481

A step up from the galvanised CP HiTex hoses. CP HiTex® 481 is built with glass-fabric construction and clamp profile — a combination that handles short-term peaks up to +700 °C and is spark-resistant. 42 standard sizes from Ø 50.5 mm to Ø 800 mm cover precision extraction to large furnace and melting systems. The construction is vacuum-oriented and highly flexible.

Why this hose?

Where 480 and 487 stop at peak +500 °C, 481 goes one step higher: peak +700 °C short-term. This is achieved through a construction that replaces the plain galvanised steel spiral with layered glass fabric and an external clamp profile. The glass fabric tolerates direct thermal exposure without deforming, while the clamp profile provides structural stability and abrasion resistance.

The hose is spark-resistant — a property that builds directly on the glass fabric's thermal and chemical inertness. That makes it particularly applicable to welding robots, engine exhaust on test benches, and extraction of particles from hot work processes where spark contact is part of operation, not an exception.

With 42 standard sizes 481 covers both tight installation runs (Ø 50.5 mm) and large main lines in furnace and melting installations (up to Ø 800 mm). Like the rest of the family it is not specified for positive working pressure — vacuum and low-pressure extraction is the operating model. Thermal expansion is significant in operation above +500 °C and must be accounted for in the installation.

Peak vs. continuous operation

700 °C is a peak temperature, not continuous operation. The hose tolerates short-term spike temperatures of up to 700 °C, but must not run constantly at that temperature. Consult the manufacturer's specification for actual durations. For continuous high-temperature loads, CP HiTex 483 (peak 1100 °C) or a metal hose is recommended.

Where it is used

The hose is used where hot gases and particles need to be moved away -- typically exhaust, smoke extraction and drying processes. The classical use is exhaust extraction from engines on test benches, at vehicle repair and in automotive development centres.

In the welding industry for collecting welding fume from robot welding stations where hot particles can come off the process. The CP clamp profile protects against sparks that would otherwise ignite a standard polymer hose.

In glass and ceramic industry for high-temperature flue, smelting kilns and high-temperature ventilation. In paper industry for drying processes where the air in vapour extraction is above 200 °C.

The formal name is CP HiTex® 481. In daily use, many call it "the glass-fabric CP HiTex", "the 700-degree hose" or "the spark-resistant". All three work.

Note: Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's data sheet. Overpressure and underpressure are recommended operating limits; products can be subjected to higher loads on request. The bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend. Standards and compliance

The hose is tested and documented in compliance with the following standards:

  • High-temperature construction. The hose is specified for peak 700 °C short-term and continuous operation down to −60 °C. Material selection and lamination technique are chosen to withstand thermal shock and hot particles.
  • Spark-resistant CP clamp profile. The external stainless steel clamp profile protects against sparks and hot particles from outside. This is a passive protection, but critical in welding and exhaust applications.
  • Penetration protection for the CP series. The manufacturer documents the protection degree against ingress of sparks, small particles and moisture. Data sheet is available for download.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). EU regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals. The hose materials comply with REACH; a manufacturer declaration is available for download.
  • RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU). Restriction of Hazardous Substances -- restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in products. The hose components comply with the RoHS limit values.

The hose is not ATEX approved. For ATEX applications in high-temperature environments see CP PE 457 EC or CP PTFE-INOX 475 EC in the Chemical category.

Industries that use it

The hose is used in industries where high temperatures and spark risk are central challenges.

In automotive and vehicle construction the hose handles exhaust extraction from engines on test benches, where temperatures periodically pass +500 °C. The spark-resistant glass-fabric construction is necessary to withstand both sparks and thermal impulse from diesel combustion.

In welding industries and robotic welding it sits on local extraction at hot-work stations where 480/487 would be thermally under-specified. In glass industry and ceramic industry it is hot air and gases from furnaces and melters that are the primary challenge; here the hose uses its high peak tolerance fully.

In paper industry it handles hot air and steam in drying processes where specialised zones run above +500 °C short-term. In municipal vehicle industries it sits in diesel engine exhaust on specialty vehicles. The common thread is that peak temperature is the deciding selection criterion — below +500 °C, 480/485/486/487 are typically cheaper alternatives.

Custom lengths and assemblies

CP HiTex 481 can be cut to length and assembled with cuffs, ferrules and threads to fit your installation precisely. We supply finished hose assemblies with crimped ferrules, clamping cuffs or threaded connections depending on what the process requires.

We advise on which combination of hose and assembly gives the longest service life in the specific application. It can have a real impact on how often the hose needs to be replaced and how stable the system runs over time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between normal range and short-term peak?

The normal range is the temperature at which the hose can operate continuously. The short-term peak is a spike temperature the material can withstand for a limited time. CP HiTex 481 has a peak of 700 degrees, but it must not run constantly at that temperature. Consult the manufacturer's specification for duration.

Is the hose spark-resistant?

Yes. The CP HiTex series has an external clamp profile that protects against sparks and hot particles -- one of the reasons it is used for welding fume extraction and engine exhaust extraction.

Which bend radius should I dimension for?

Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose. If the bend becomes too sharp, the clamp profile is squeezed together and the hose can be damaged. The table shows recommended minimum bend radii per dimension. When in doubt, choose a slightly larger radius.

Can I have the hose cut to length?

Yes. CP HiTex 481 is cut to your length, and we advise on couplings that withstand the same temperatures as the hose itself.

What is the lead time?

Standard variants are typically in stock with a few days' lead time. Special variants depend on the manufacturer's production -- we give you a precise date when you contact us.
