RADIACORD

RADIACORD is an EPDM cooling water hose developed specifically for closed cooling circuits with glycol-based antifreeze. Wide dimension range (ID 10-42 mm), -30 to 100 C temperature capacity, and resistance to a wide spectrum of antifreeze types make it a widespread solution in HVAC, automotive and machinery industries.

Why this hose?

RADIACORD differs from TEMPERFORM in its significantly wider dimension range (14 SKUs vs 2) and a slightly different wall construction optimised for continuous operation with glycol-based media. For closed cooling circuits in commercial and industrial buildings, RADIACORD is the primary solution.

The EPDM elastomer accepts both ethylene and propylene glycol in a wide mix ratio with water. This is decisive because most closed cooling circuits operate with 30-50 percent glycol concentration, and a hose that swells or becomes brittle under this exposure will fail within months.

The wide dimension range (ID 10-42 mm) covers virtually all common cooling-water pipe sizes. The hose is constructed with the same basic wall composition across dimensions, but the pressure class is reduced at larger IDs (6 bar up to 25 mm, 4 bar from 28 mm) - a consequence of material physics.

Where it is used

HVAC installations in commercial buildings use RADIACORD as distribution between chiller, accumulator tanks and air handlers. The EPDM construction tolerates years of continuous operation with glycol-water mixture without maintenance beyond visual inspection.

Automotive production and test facilities use the hose in vehicle cooling tests, engine cooling rigs and production cooling circuits. The larger dimensions (28-42 mm) are particularly popular here where flow rates are higher than in smaller installations.

Plastics processing, glass and ceramic industries use RADIACORD for mould and machine cooling. The hose is constructed for continuous operation with temperature shifts between -30 and 100 C - typical for cooling circuits that must fluctuate with the production cycle.

RADIACORD is colloquially known as a radiator hose or antifreeze hose.

Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's factsheet. Overpressure and underpressure values are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend.

Standards and compliance

The hose is manufactured to European and international standards for industrial rubber and thermoplastic hoses. EN ISO 1307:2008 is the primary construction standard; other directives and certificates follow the manufacturer's quality system.

  • EN ISO 1307:2008. European standard for rubber and thermoplastic hoses for general applications. Defines dimensions, pressure tolerance, durability and marking.
  • EN ISO 8031:2020. Determination of electrical resistance in rubber and thermoplastic hoses. Used to confirm the hose's insulating character (water hoses are normally not conductive).
  • EN ISO 8033:2016. Test of adhesion between lining, wall material and reinforcement. Ensures the hose's layers stay bonded under pressure and flexing.
  • EN ISO 7233:2016. Determination of vacuum resistance. Relevant for water hoses operating with short-term negative pressure.
  • RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU). Restriction of hazardous substances in electrical/electronic equipment. Manufacturer declaration on file.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals. Manufacturer declaration on request.
  • ISO 9001:2015. Quality management system at the manufacturer. Ensures each production batch follows the same specification.

Help with material selection

Although this hose isn't ATEX-relevant, these two articles provide useful background on electrical resistance and industrial safety — important if you later combine the hose with electrical equipment or work in mixed environments:

Industries that use it

RADIACORD is used as a standard solution in closed cooling circuits where glycol resistance and wide dimension range are decisive - typically in HVAC, automotive and mechanical engineering.

HVAC and refrigeration is the core market: commercial building air conditioning, industrial cooling installations and district cooling distribution. EPDM's glycol resistance makes it the de facto solution for mixed water-antifreeze media.

Automotive production and vehicle industry use RADIACORD in cooling water circuits and test rigs. The EPDM construction is preferred over NBR-based hoses, which swell in glycol, and over PUR-based hoses, which hydrolyse in prolonged water contact.

Plastics, glass and ceramic industries use the hose for mould temperature control and cooling of production equipment. The wide dimension range (10-42 mm) means the same product can cover different pipe sizes without stocking multiple hose types.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose can be delivered cut to desired lengths. The standard roll is 40 m, and shorter pieces or multiple rolls can be supplied by arrangement.

At Particulair we advise on couplings and sizing. Send us a sketch of your application and we will assess the right variant and length.

Frequently asked questions

What makes RADIACORD particularly suited to antifreeze?

The EPDM lining is resistant to glycol-based antifreeze (ethylene and propylene glycol) in a wide mix ratio with water. This sets it apart from NBR-based hoses that swell in glycol, and from PUR-based hoses that hydrolyse in prolonged water contact. For closed cooling circuits with glycol, EPDM elastomer is the preferred solution.

Which dimensions does RADIACORD come in?

14 standard dimensions from ID 10 mm to ID 42 mm with correspondingly increasing wall thickness and outer diameter. Smaller dimensions (10-25 mm) have 6 bar working pressure; larger dimensions (28-42 mm) have 4 bar - a consequence of the same wall construction having to withstand the same force regardless of circumference.

What is the difference between fabric and smooth outer layers?

For ID up to 25 mm the hose has a smooth outer layer; for ID 28 mm and above the outer layer is fabric-patterned. The fabric pattern gives better grip in clamp couplings on larger dimensions and signals visually that the hose is reinforced. Functionally there is no difference in durability.

Can the hose handle temperature shifts between cold and hot water?

Yes - this is the core application. EPDM elastomer is very cycle-resistant and tolerates thousands of temperature shifts between -30 and 100 C without permanent deformation. This is particularly important in injection moulding where the mould is cooled and heated every single cycle.

Is RADIACORD suitable for air-borne transport?

No - RADIACORD is a liquid hose and is not designed for air or steam transport under vacuum. For combined air and water transport (e.g. HVAC systems with air recovery) a separate vacuum-rated hose is used. RADIACORD can, however, handle minor under-pressure in closed water circuits.

Which couplings are recommended?

Standard worm-drive clamps work fine on the smaller dimensions (10-25 mm). For larger dimensions (28+ mm) we recommend safety bands or double clamps to ensure leak protection in closed systems. Contact us for advice based on your specific coupling scenario.

Is RADIACORD food-grade?

The factsheet does not specify EU 1935/2004 or FDA approval for RADIACORD. For food contact we recommend a variant with explicit approval - contact us to evaluate alternatives if water in the cooling circuit might later come into contact with foodstuffs.

Can the hose be delivered in other lengths?

Yes - 40 m is the standard roll, but shorter cut pieces or multiple rolls are available by arrangement. For OEM use in series production, continuous rolls up to 200 m can be supplied from the same batch.
