Why this hose?

AIRDUC® PUR 355 HT (HD) is developed for the transport of abrasive media where a standard polymer hose would be worn out within weeks. Heavy-duty PUR wall, HT-stabilised with embedded steel spiral The particularly wear-resistant construction protects against abrasion from gravel, granulates, sand and crushed material.

Polyurethane has the highest mechanical wear resistance among common hose polymers — measured in ISO-standardised Taber tests, PUR typically lasts 5-10 times longer than PVC or rubber under the same abrasion. This means longer service intervals and lower total cost of ownership.

The hose is not ATEX-approved and should not be used for transporting combustible dust or gases. For ATEX zones, EC or AS variants of the same base construction are available.

Important context

Abrasion resistance is not the same as ATEX suitability. Polyurethane has high mechanical wear resistance against granulates and particles, but standard PUR hoses are insulating — they do not conduct static electricity. For ATEX zones with combustible dust, choose the AS or EC variant of the same base construction.

In dry pneumatic transport of particulate material, static charges always arise due to friction against the hose wall. If the environment is ATEX-classified, an insulating hose is a safety risk.

Where it is used

The hose is used in collection and transport of abrasive materials — sand, gravel, crushed glass, metal chips and industrial waste. It is typically used on mobile vehicles such as sweeping vehicles and vacuum trucks.

Typical systems are municipal road cleaning, sandblasting installations, construction site waste collection, and industrial vacuum systems in foundries and recycling plants.

In construction industry, foundry industry, recycling and waste wear resistance is a critical parameter — the hose lasts many times longer than PVC or rubber hoses under the same load, reducing downtime and replacement costs.

The formal name is AIRDUC® PUR 355 HT (HD). In daily use most people call it the "HT hose" or simply "the hot PUR hose" — HT stands for high-temperature.

How hot can it actually run?

The normal operating range is −40 °C to +125 °C, with short-term peaks tolerated up to +150 °C. That is significantly higher than the standard 355 HD (+90 °C / +125 °C peak), and it is often this gap that allows the HT variant to be used where an ordinary PUR hose would begin to soften. For higher temperatures still (+200 °C and above), look toward silicone or metallic constructions — for example the CP HiTex family.

Dimensions and ordering

AIRDUC® PUR 355 HT (HD) is supplied in 18 standard sizes from inner Ø 25.1 mm to 400 mm. Each size has its own article number at the manufacturer. Standard roll length is typically 10 m, and the hose can be cut to length.

Note: Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's factsheet. Overpressure and underpressure are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose. Standards and compliance

The hose is tested and certified to the following standards:

  • DIN 26057 Type 2. German industrial standard for hoses used in pneumatic transport. Defines types, dimensions, pressure and vacuum requirements, and test procedures for industrial pneumatic hoses.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). EU regulation on registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals. The hose's materials are REACH-compliant; manufacturer's declaration is available for download.
  • RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU). Restriction of Hazardous Substances — restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in electronic products. The hose's components comply with RoHS limit values.

Industries that use it

The hose is used across a wide range of industries — below is an overview of the most typical industries where AIRDUC® PUR 355 HT (HD) is used:

In the chemical and ceramic industries, 355 HT (HD) is used where the medium is both abrasive and hot — typically powders and granulates from drying installations or directly after a thermal process. The higher temperature tolerance lets the hose sit closer to the process without needing a cooling stage in between.

In plastics and mechanical engineering, it appears in installations around injection-moulding machines, tablet presses and pneumatic conveying systems where the material is freshly formed and not yet cooled. In glass and refractory industries, it is used near furnaces and melting installations, where air flow leaving the process can carry hot particles.

In the textile, construction and printing industries, it sits in bulk transfer where the process generates hot dust fractions. What unites these applications is that the HT variant is selected where standard 355 HD would have started to lose mechanical integrity — thermal tolerance is what dictates the choice.

Custom lengths and assemblies

AIRDUC® PUR 355 HT (HD) can be cut to length and assembled with couplings, cuffs and threads to fit your installation precisely. We produce complete hose assemblies with crimped ferrules, clamp collars or threaded connections, depending on what the process requires.

We advise on coupling types and assembly solutions suited to your specific application, so the installation is reliable and easy to maintain.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an abrasive hose last?

Service life depends on medium aggressiveness, flow velocity and hose dimension. PUR hoses typically last 5-10 times longer than PVC under the same load. Service intervals are typically 6-18 months under continuous operation.

Can abrasive hoses be used in ATEX zones?

Standard abrasive PUR hoses are NOT ATEX-approved — they are insulating. For ATEX zones, choose the AS or EC variant of the same base construction.

What's the difference between HD and XHD?

HD (heavy-duty) has a heavier wall than standard MD (medium-duty). XHD (extra heavy-duty) has an even thicker wall and reinforced spiral, for the most abrasive media such as glass beads and metal chips.

Can the hose be kinked by sharp bends?

If the bend radius is less than specified in the factsheet, yes. PUR hoses are very flexible but have a minimum bend radius of about 5 × inner Ø. Forced bending below this radius permanently damages the spiral.

Can the hose be cut to length?

Yes. Custom cutting is a standard service from Particulair. We cut the hose to the desired length, install couplings if required, and ship it ready to use.
