AIRDUC® PUR 355 SWEEPER

Highly flexible sweeper hose with protected exterior folds — that geometry is the defining feature. The folds are thicker on the outside than the smooth inner surface, so the hose can be compressed and extended again thousands of times without wear concentrating on the crests of the folds. Wear-resistant PUR throughout the construction, flexible down to −40 °C, specifically developed for municipal sweeping vehicles and similar mobile applications.

Why this hose?

AIRDUC® PUR 355 SWEEPER is developed for one very specific application: the suction hose on a municipal sweeping vehicle. That duty cycle imposes requirements unlike other industrial hoses — the hose has to be pulled out, compressed, rolled back in, and subjected to wear from gravel, leaves, sand and wet media many times each day.

The protected exterior fold geometry is the answer. The folds are thicker at the crest than in the valley, so the wear from the hose lying against asphalt does not concentrate on the highly loaded points. PUR is chosen for the combination of mechanical wear resistance and flexibility down to −40 °C — sweeping vehicles run through the winter too.

It is not ATEX-approved and not food-grade — these are not what a sweeping vehicle needs. In this class the focus is on long service life against repeated mechanical loading, not on material certifications.

Important context

Abrasion resistance is not the same as ATEX suitability. Polyurethane has high mechanical wear resistance against granulates and particles, but standard PUR hoses are insulating — they do not conduct static electricity. For ATEX zones with combustible dust, choose the AS or EC variant of the same base construction.

In dry pneumatic transport of particulate material, static charges always arise due to friction against the hose wall. If the environment is ATEX-classified, an insulating hose is a safety risk.

Where it is used

AIRDUC® PUR 355 SWEEPER is used where a hose has to withstand repeated mechanical loads and at the same time reach into hard-to-access positions. It is a specific application: municipal road cleaning and leaf extraction.

In practice we see it most often used on street sweepers for collecting street waste, leaves and particles, and as leaf extraction hose for municipal parks and roads. The robust construction also handles gravel and small waste pieces without the hose buckling.

It is also used on specialty vehicles such as snow blowers, small park and garden maintenance machines, and construction equipment for collecting construction waste and grinding dust. Each time, the combination of flexibility, abrasion resistance and vehicle-suitable form is decisive.

The formal name is AIRDUC® PUR 355 SWEEPER. In daily use most people call it the "sweeper hose" or "road-sweeper hose" — its natural home is on the reel behind the cab of a municipal sweeping vehicle.

Technical specifications

Specifications are current as of 15 April 2026 and refer to 20 °C unless otherwise stated.

Material Polyurethane (PUR), abrasion-resistant
Colour Black
Wall construction Spiral-reinforced PUR with protected exterior folds
Conveyed media Dust, granulates and particles
Electrical resistance Insulating — not specified for ATEX use
Cut to length Yes — Particulair cuts the hose to your dimensions
Protected folds

The fold construction that makes the hose recognisable is not just cosmetic — it is a mechanical answer to the fact that the hose is pulled in and out across a reel hundreds of times each day. With thicker folds at the crest, wear is distributed over a larger area, and service life is markedly longer than on a smooth outer wall. For more extreme loads (heavy stones, mixed construction-site debris), 355 SWEEPER REINFORCED is available with a heavier wall.

Dimensions and ordering

AIRDUC® PUR 355 SWEEPER is supplied in 10 standard sizes from inner Ø 151.5 mm to 275 mm. Each size has its own article number at the manufacturer. Standard roll length is typically 10 m, and the hose can be cut to length.

Note: Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's factsheet. Overpressure and underpressure are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose. Standards and compliance

The hose is tested and documented in compliance with the following industrial standards.

  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). EU regulation on registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals. The hose's materials are REACH-compliant; manufacturer's declaration is available for download.
  • RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU). Restriction of Hazardous Substances — restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in electronic products. The hose's components comply with RoHS limit values.

The hose is not ATEX-certified and not food-grade. It is specifically designed for municipal road and park cleaning.

Industries that use it

AIRDUC® PUR 355 SWEEPER has a focused application: municipal road and park operations. It is part of vehicles and equipment where pick-up and cleaning are the core activity.

The hose is, as the name suggests, primarily designed for municipal sweeping vehicles and similar cleaning equipment. That is the dominant application, and it is in this context that the fold-based construction really shows its value.

In cleaning and waste handling, it is also used on stationary installations such as industrial vacuum cleaners and collection stations where a hose is drawn out and reeled back in daily. In the construction industry, it sits on mobile vacuums on site, where picking up sawdust, gypsum and construction debris is the core task.

In parks and grounds maintenance, it is used on leaf vacuums and slope mowers — the same principle of flexibility and wear resistance combined with compressibility is decisive. What unites these applications is that the hose has to handle mixed, often wet and abrasive material without losing flexibility or compressibility.

Custom lengths and assemblies

AIRDUC® PUR 355 SWEEPER can be cut to length and assembled with couplings, cuffs and threads to fit your installation precisely. We produce complete hose assemblies with crimped ferrules, clamp collars or threaded connections, depending on what the process requires.

We advise on coupling types and assembly solutions suited to your specific application, so the installation is reliable and easy to maintain.

Frequently asked questions

What is a sweeper hose?

A sweeper hose is a hose optimised for municipal sweeping vehicles. It has protected exterior folds that make it extremely flexible without losing form — important when the hose must reach under the vehicle and pick up material from varying positions. The PUR material is abrasion-resistant and flexible even at low temperatures (-40 °C).

Which sizes is the hose available in?

The hose is supplied in larger diameters from 151.5 mm to 275 mm, as it is designed for large sweeping vehicles and large pick-up volumes. For smaller vehicles or other applications, we recommend a standard AIRDUC variant.

Is the hose ATEX-approved?

No. AIRDUC® PUR 355 SWEEPER is not ATEX-approved and is not intended for use in explosion-hazard zones. For ATEX applications, other hose types are available in the FlexCore range.

Can the hose be supplied in custom lengths?

Yes. The hose can be cut to length and assembled with couplings, cuffs and threaded fittings through Particulair's custom hose assemblies. Maximum production length is typically 10-15 m depending on diameter.

What temperature does the hose tolerate?

The normal operating range is −40 °C to +90 °C, making the hose suitable for year-round municipal operations — including work in cold winters. Short-term peaks up to +125 °C are permitted.
