NORPLAST® PVC 389 NAFTOIL/BUNA

Highly flexible suction and pressure hose with NBR/PVC outer cover — designed for transport of water, slurry and oils. The slightly corrugated outer cover provides good flexibility, and the NBR addition in the material gives good oil resistance compared to pure PVC. Service from −30 °C to +65 °C — wider temperature range than most PVC hoses. EN ISO 1307:2008.

Why this hose?

NORPLAST® PVC 389 NAFTOIL/BUNA is specially formulated to handle media where PVC alone would be insufficient. NBR (acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber) added to the PVC blend significantly improves oil and fuel resistance — particularly important in agriculture and industry where diesel, hydraulic oil and similar come in contact with the hose.

The extended temperature range (−30 to +65 °C) makes the hose suitable for outdoor applications in northern climates where winter temperature swings would otherwise break PVC. The anthracite spiral visible through the outer cover provides visual identification.

Where it is used

In agriculture it's used for handling both water, slurry and light oil-based media — a versatility that makes it a go-to hose on field machines and fixed installations.

In horticulture it sits in irrigation and drainage systems where suction and pressure must be handled by the same hose type. The slightly corrugated outer cover makes it flexible enough to follow moving structures.

In everyday talk we call it an "oil-water hose" or "NBR blend" — the grey colour with anthracite spiral is the first thing you recognise.

Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's factsheet. Overpressure and underpressure values are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend.

Standards and compliance

NORPLAST® PVC 389 NAFTOIL/BUNA conforms to:

  • EN ISO 1307:2008. International standard for hose dimensions.
  • REACH and RoHS. EU directives for chemicals and hazardous substances.

Help with material selection

Although this hose isn't ATEX-relevant, these two articles provide useful background on electrical resistance and industrial safety — important if you later combine the hose with electrical equipment or work in mixed environments:

Industries that use it

NORPLAST® PVC 389 NAFTOIL/BUNA is used where oil resistance is needed along with ordinary water or slurry handling:

In agriculture and horticulture the hose combines NBR resistance (to diesel, hydraulic, coolants) with standard PVC flexibility. It covers a wide range of field and farm applications without changing hose type.

In light industry it's used for oil-based transport tasks where a fixed metal hose would be overkill. The extended temperature range makes it usable outdoors year-round in northern climates.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose is delivered on 50 m rolls. We cut to length and fit Camlock, clamp ring or quick-connects as a finished assembly.

For serial deliveries we can establish consistent assembly across the delivery.

Frequently asked questions

What is NBR?

Acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber — a synthetic rubber type with good resistance to oils, fuels and lubricants. NBR addition to PVC gives better oil resistance than pure PVC while maintaining flexibility.

Does it tolerate diesel and hydraulic oil?

Yes. The NBR addition makes the hose specifically resistant to mineral oils and fuels at operating temperatures. For continuous contact with high-aromatic petrol or specific aggressive lubricants the material should be cross-checked against the resistance table.

Can I use it for drinking water?

No. The hose is not food-grade certified. For drinking water choose NORPLAST® PVC 380 GREEN.

What's the difference between NAFTOIL/BUNA and standard NORPLAST PVC?

Standard NORPLAST PVC has pure PVC wall and is more broadly applicable but not specifically oil-resistant. NAFTOIL/BUNA has NBR addition that specifically improves oil and fuel resistance. Choose NAFTOIL/BUNA when the medium contains oils or fuels.

How hot water does it tolerate?

Up to +65 °C continuous. That's marginally higher than standard PVC hoses and covers e.g. heated slurry or process water. For warmer media choose a different hose type.

Is it ATEX-approved?

No. The PVC/NBR wall is insulating without conductive or antistatic properties.
