PROTAPE PUR 370 (LD)

PROTAPE PUR 370 (LD) is a highly flexible ventilation hose with a fabric-reinforced PUR wall, wear-resistant and flame retardant per NF P 92-503 M1. The hose is used for welding fume extraction, hot-air distribution and general ventilation where fire resistance is part of the specification. The operating range is -40 to +125 C, and the wall is just 0.25 mm thick - a lightweight, compact hose optimised for mobile welding fume extraction stations and flexible ventilation connections.

Why this hose?

The fabric reinforcement is the key to the hose being able to have such a thin wall (0.25 mm) while still tolerating daily industrial handling. Polyester fabric contributes tensile strength in both directions - length and circumference - so the wall does not crack under repeated bending or tensile load. It is a construction that combines lightness with wear strength.

Flame-retardant M1 classification is not the same as non-combustible. The hose can still burn under extreme conditions, but it does not support self-sustained combustion - if the heat source is removed, the flame extinguishes. This is the important difference: in welding fume extraction, the question is not whether the hose can never ignite, but whether the fire does not spread up into the whole system.

The operating range to +125 C is broader than most competitor hoses in this price class. This means the hose can handle short-term temperature peaks from welding applications or hot process gas, where a standard ventilation hose (typically +90 C) would lose integrity. For sustained temperatures above +125 C we recommend a silicone-based hose.

Where it is used

Welding fume extraction stations are the classic application. The hose leads fume from the welding gun to the filter box via a flexible arm that can be moved with the welder. Fire resistance ensures that sporadic spark hits on the hose surface do not lead to ignition - important because the extraction system's collection of flammable vapours could otherwise accelerate a fire scenario.

The paint shop industry uses the hose in paint booth extraction where solvent vapours and overspray must be exhausted. The hose's combination of fire resistance and chemical resistance to common paint solvents makes it a safe solution. Note however that the hose is NOT antistatic - for ATEX-classified paint booths (zone 1 or 2) we recommend a conductive variant.

Construction drying uses the hose to lead hot air from heating units to drying areas at construction sites. The hose's compressibility (4:1) is practical here - a 20 m hose can be transported as a 5 m bundle and stretched out on site. Fire resistance is added safety value on construction sites where fire risk is a daily factor.

The hose is colloquially known as a welding fume hose or flame-retardant PUR hose.

Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's factsheet. Overpressure and underpressure values are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend.

Standards and compliance

The hose is manufactured to European standards for industrial ventilation and extraction hoses. NF P 92-503 M1 is the primary fire classification.

  • NF P 92-503 M1. French building material standard for fire resistance. M1 means 'low ignition level' - the material does not support self-sustained combustion. Standard qualification for ventilation and extraction systems in industry and construction.
  • EN 13501-1. European harmonised classification of building materials for fire properties. NF P 92-503 M1 approximately corresponds to class B-s2,d0 in EN 13501-1.
  • RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU). Restriction of hazardous substances. Manufacturer declaration on file.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). Registration of chemical substances. Manufacturer declaration on request.
  • EN 12115. European standard for rubber and thermoplastic hoses for liquids and chemicals. Relevant for ventilation hoses that may come into contact with chemical vapours.
  • ISO 9001:2015. Quality management system at the manufacturer. Ensures each batch follows the same specification.
  • DIN 4102. German building material standard for fire resistance; B1 classification has similar requirements to M1.

Help with material selection

Although this hose isn't ATEX-relevant, these two articles provide useful background on electrical resistance and industrial safety — important if you later combine the hose with electrical equipment or work in mixed environments:

Industries that use it

PROTAPE PUR 370 (LD) is used where a lightweight, wear-resistant ventilation hose must be combined with flame-retardant properties - typically in welding fume, hot-air and paint shop applications.

Welding industry is the main market. Mobile welding fume extraction stations use the hose to lead fume from the welding point to the filter unit. Fire resistance is critical - welding sparks can hit the hose, and a standard PUR hose would ignite. The M1 classification ensures the hose cannot be a source of fire in the extraction system itself.

Automotive and paint shop industries use the hose for paint booth extraction and curing oven handling. Hot-air distribution from drying systems to painted parts requires a hose that tolerates 100-125 C continuously. PROTAPE PUR 370 (LD) meets this without igniting on possible particle impact.

Construction drying and temporary heating are secondary markets. The hose is used to lead hot air from central heating units to construction site areas where drying or frost protection is required. Fire resistance is a safety advantage on construction sites where fire risk is a daily factor.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose can be delivered cut to desired lengths. The standard roll can be supplemented with shorter pieces or multiple rolls by arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

What is special about the 'fabric-reinforced' construction?

The hose's wall is a PUR membrane with a textile reinforcement integrated in the layer structure. The fabric (typically polyester weave) contributes tensile strength so the hose can handle bending and stretching without crack formation in the wall. This is a common construction with thin-wall hoses (here 0.25 mm) where the material alone would not provide enough mechanical integrity.

Why is the hose flame retardant?

The wall contains a flame-retardant additive that ensures the hose does not support self-sustained combustion per NF P 92-503 M1 (French building standard). This is critical in welding fume extraction where sparks and hot particles can hit the hose surface - a standard PUR hose would ignite, but the M1 classification ensures the hose self-extinguishes.

Can the hose be used for hot process gas?

Yes - the operating range is -40 to +125 C, covering most hot extraction applications including welding fume, heating and short-term thermal spikes. For higher temperatures (above +130 C) we recommend a silicone-based or specialised high-temperature hose.

Is the hose ATEX-approved?

No. PROTAPE PUR 370 (LD) has NO antistatic or conductive specification - the wall is insulating. For ATEX zones with dust or combustible gases we recommend PROTAPE PUR 330 AS BLACK (LD) or a conductive variant. The hose can still be used for welding fume extraction where ATEX is not required, but be aware of local rules.

How many dimensions are there?

13 dimensions from 50.5 mm to 254 mm inner diameter. Small dimensions (50.5-90 mm) are typically delivered on 15 m rolls and larger dimensions on 20 m. Wall thickness is 0.25 mm across the range - it is a light, compact hose.

How does the hose differ from PROTAPE PUR 330?

PROTAPE PUR 370 (LD) is flame retardant but NOT antistatic - the opposite of PROTAPE PUR 330 AS BLACK (LD). 370 has a thinner wall (0.25 mm vs. 0.6 mm) and is optimised for welding fume and hot-air extraction. 330 is optimised for ATEX extraction where antistatic function is required. The two hoses cover different application segments.

What colour is the hose?

Dark grey. This is a typical industrial colour that does not stand out in technical installations. The PUR material can be coloured in other shades on special order, but 370 (LD) is delivered standard in dark grey.

Can the hose be delivered with pre-fitted couplings?

Yes - we typically fit hose ends, quick couplings or worm-drive clamps with welding-fume-grade tapering on welding-fume applications. Send us a drawing of your installation and we'll advise on coupling choice and supply the required lengths.
