Why this hose?

AIRDUC® PUR 356 EC (XHD) is built for the most demanding installations where both abrasion and ATEX compliance are critical. The extra-heavy-duty wall construction withstands wear from fast granulate and powder flows for far longer than standard HD variants, and the internal conductive coating ensures that static charges are safely dissipated to ground.

The embedded steel spiral gives form stability under both suction and pressure, and the hose can be bent without collapsing. That means longer service life, fewer replacements and more stable operation -- particularly in process plants with continuous material flow.

The hose is certified to ATEX 2014/34/EU and complies with TRGS 727's requirements for electrical dissipation. It may be used in the zones specified by the ATEX marking -- always verify against the risk assessment of the actual installation before use.

Important context

The hose is one part of a system. The ATEX approval presupposes that the whole system is correctly grounded, and that the resistance through the entire chain (hose, couplings, connections and machine) is low enough to dissipate static electricity. A hose with a conductive wall in a system without correct grounding gives a false sense of security.

We always recommend a continuity measurement after installation. Read more about the weakest link in an ESD chain.

Where it is used

The hose is used for pneumatic conveying of powders and granulates in demanding process plants -- typically where high throughput, abrasive media and ATEX zones combine. Finding all three requirements met in one hose is rare.

Typical systems include dosing systems, granulate dryers, suction trucks, and pneumatic conveying lines between silos and process reactors. The ATEX approval is a prerequisite for installation in Zone 21 and 22 where combustible dust is present.

In the energy industry, glass industry and mining the hose is part of a fully grounded system. Correct grounding is critical -- without it the conductive property does not work in practice.

The formal product name is AIRDUC® PUR 356 EC (XHD). In daily conversation we typically refer to it as a conductive XHD PUR hose.

Note: Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's data sheet. Overpressure and underpressure are recommended operating limits; products can be subjected to higher loads on request. The bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend. Standards and compliance

The hose is tested and documented in compliance with the following standards:

  • ATEX 2014/34/EU (1999/92/EC). European directive for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The hose is certified to this legislation and may be used in the zones specified by the ATEX marking.
  • TRGS 727. German technical rules for hazardous substances, prevention of ignition sources when handling combustible dusts and liquids. The hose's electrical dissipation meets TRGS 727's limit values.
  • DIN 26057 Type 4. German industry standard for hoses for pneumatic conveying; Type 4 covers extra-heavy-duty constructions.
  • NFPA 652. American standard for the management of combustible dust. The hose's surface resistance meets the specified limit.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). EU regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals. The hose materials comply with REACH; a manufacturer declaration is available for download.
  • RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU). Restriction of Hazardous Substances -- restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in products. The hose components comply with the RoHS limit values.

The hose is not approved for food contact. For food contact see the AIRDUC® PUR FOOD series.

Help with material selection

When you select a conductive or antistatic hose, the hose itself does not determine whether the system is safe. These two articles go in depth with two concepts that are often misunderstood and that are crucial for understanding whether a hose actually works as intended.

Industries that use it

The hose is used across a wide range of industries -- typically where high throughput, wear and ATEX requirements go together.

In the Energy industry the hose is used for conveying flammable dusts and granulates. In the Glass industry for dust and granulate with high abrasion. In the Cleaning industry for industrial vacuum cleaners and plant cleaning.

In the Pump and compressor industry for pumps and compressors with abrasive media. In Bulk material handling for the conveying and processing of larger volumes of granulate.

The hose is also used in Silo and conveying technology for long runs and high velocities, and in the Mining industry for mineral dust and abrasives.

Custom lengths and assemblies

AIRDUC® PUR 356 EC (XHD) can be cut to length and assembled with cuffs, ferrules and threads to fit your installation precisely. We supply finished hose assemblies with crimped ferrules, clamping cuffs or threaded connections depending on what the process requires.

For ATEX installations it is particularly important that couplings and assemblies preserve the hose's electrical continuity. The whole system has to dissipate static electricity to ground -- not the hose alone.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the AS and EC variant?

AS and EC concern electrical resistance: the AS variant is antistatic (surface resistance <10⁹ Ω), the EC variant is fully conductive (<10⁶ Ω). EC is required in Zone 20 and high-energy ESD; AS is sufficient for Zone 21 and 22.

Can the hose be used with flammable liquids?

It depends on the marking. The hose's full ATEX marking specifies which zones and which media it may be used for. Correct grounding is a prerequisite for the antistatic or conductive property to function in practice.

Does the hose need to be grounded?

Yes. The ATEX approval presupposes that the whole system is correctly grounded. The hose dissipates static electricity, but if the chain is broken somewhere (coupling, machine, ground connection), the property does not work in practice. We always recommend a measurement after installation.

Can I have the hose cut to length?

Yes. AIRDUC® PUR 356 EC (XHD) is cut to your length and we fit couplings, cuffs and threads so it matches your installation.

What is the lead time?

Standard variants are typically in stock with a few days' lead time. Special variants or particular lengths depend on the manufacturer's production -- we give you a precise date when you contact us with your enquiry.
