Why this hose?

AIRDUC® PE 362 FOOD (MD) is the food-grade version of the PE 362 range. PE is one of the few polymers that's both food-grade certifiable and broadly chemically resistant — this makes the hose particularly usable on multi-medium installations where the medium can alternate between foods and chemical ingredients.

GMP EU 2023/2006 (Good Manufacturing Practice) is a plus signal documenting that the manufacturer has strict quality processes in the manufacturing itself — especially important in pharma applications where traceability is critical.

Where it is used

In food industry the hose typically sits on powder and granulate handling — especially bulk-bag charging and discharging where large amounts of powder are pneumatically moved between silos and production equipment.

In pharma it's used for powder transport between raw material receiving and production lines. PE's broad chemical resistance covers both food-compatible and lightly aggressive pharmaceutical ingredients.

In everyday talk we call it a "food PE" — it's the natural food-grade variant of the PE 362 range.

Standards and compliance

AIRDUC® PE 362 FOOD (MD) is certified to:

  • FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 3.1 and 3.2. US standard for food contact materials.
  • EU 10/2011 + EC 1935/2004. European directives for materials in contact with food.
  • (GMP) EU 2023/2006. Good Manufacturing Practice for food contact materials.
  • REACH and RoHS. EU directives for chemicals.

Help with material selection

Although this hose isn't ATEX-relevant, these two articles provide useful background on electrical resistance and industrial safety — important if you later combine the hose with electrical equipment or work in mixed environments:

Industries that use it

AIRDUC® PE 362 FOOD (MD) is used across food, pharma and chemical industries:

In food industry it's standard on powder pneumatic systems — bulk-bag charging, silo unloading, dosing. The food-grade approval combined with PE's abrasion resistance makes the hose suitable for continuous operation.

In pharma the GMP manufacturing and fullness of certifications (FDA + EU + GMP) is decisive for compliance documentation.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose is delivered on 10 m and 20 m rolls. We cut to length and fit hygiene couplings or standard fittings.

For serial use in food production we can establish consistent assembly with documented food-grade compliance.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between AIRDUC® PE 362 FOOD and AIRDUC® PE 362 EC?

FOOD is food-grade certified (FDA + EU 10/2011 + GMP). EC is ATEX-conductive (<10³ Ω) for explosion hazard zones. Choose FOOD for food production; choose EC for ATEX applications. Both have the same PE base material.

What does FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 mean?

US regulation for olefin-based polymers in contact with food. Section 3.1 and 3.2 are specific for polyethylene types. The material passes when it meets the specified tests for migration and toxicology.

Does it tolerate wet and hot cleaning?

Yes, up to +80 °C continuous. This covers normal CIP cleaning. For SIP (Steam-In-Place) at higher temperatures choose a silicone hose (NORFLEX® SIL 408 up to +180 °C).

Is it ATEX-approved?

No, the FOOD version is insulating. For ATEX zones choose AIRDUC® PE 362 EC.

Does it tolerate food-based acids?

PE is compatible with most diluted food acids (citric, acetic, lactic) at operating temperatures. For specific high-concentrated acids cross-check against the resistance table.

Can I get it with hygiene couplings?

Yes. We fit SMS, DIN 11851, Tri-Clamp or other hygiene couplings as a finished assembly. Tell us which system your food production uses.
