AIRDUC® PUR 355 FOOD (HD)
Heavy-duty food-grade suction and pressure hose in polyurethane for high-throughput conveyance of abrasive foods and pharmaceutical media. HD wall (DIN 26057 Type 3 implied), approved per EU 10/2011 across all categories (A, B, C, D2 and E), EC 1935/2004, FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 and GMP EC 2023/2006. Also flame-retardant per UL94-V2, which makes it broadly capable — the combination of heavy-duty + full food approval + flame retardance is not common.
- Food-grade
- EU 1935/2004 + FDA
- Abrasion-resistant PUR wall
- Highly flexible
- Gas, dust, liquid, granulate
- Cut to length
Why this hose?
AIRDUC® PUR 355 FOOD (HD) is the heavy-duty version of the food family. What separates it from 351 FOOD (MD) is wall thickness: the HD wall handles higher abrasion loads and gives longer service life with sand-textured media such as sugar, salt, flour and fine grain fractions.
The hose is food-approved across all EU 10/2011 categories (A aqueous, B acidic pH<4.5, C alcohol, D2 dairy, E dry food) — a broader approval than many standard products. That means the same hose can be used across different food processes without revisiting the material choice. GMP manufacturing per EC 2023/2006 documents traceability and contamination control through production.
It is also flame-retardant per UL94-V2 — a rare combination with full food approval, and one that provides additional practical value in production environments where a spark from a motor or a welding surface can end up in an extraction line. For extreme abrasion loads, 356 FOOD (XHD) in Type 4 construction is available.
Food approval concerns the whole system, not just the hose. The hose materials are tested for food contact (EU 1935/2004, EU 10/2011, FDA 21 CFR 177.2600), but couplings, gaskets and assemblies must also be food-grade for the complete installation to be compliant.
CIP/SIP cleaning requires that both hose and couplings tolerate the specified temperatures and chemicals. Always verify full system compatibility before installation.
Where it is used
The hose is used where a process demands both full food approval and high wear resistance. That combination makes it the default choice on industrial silo installations, large bulk transfers and pneumatic conveying systems in food production.
In practice it is most often seen on silo trucks, tank loading and unloading, bulk-bag filling and discharging, and on central pneumatic conveying systems between storage tanks and production lines. The smooth inner surface reduces residues sticking and allows cleaning between batches.
It covers a size range from Ø 25 mm up to the larger bulk dimensions, and can be cut to length. Standard roll length varies with dimension — typically 10 m, up to 25 m for smaller sizes.
The formal name is AIRDUC® PUR 355 FOOD (HD). In daily use it is referred to as "the heavy-duty food hose" or "the FOOD HD hose" — placed above 351 FOOD (MD) in abrasion class, and below 356 FOOD (XHD) in the extreme class.

Note: Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's factsheet. Overpressure and underpressure are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose. Standards and compliance
The hose is tested and documented in compliance with the following European and international standards.
- DIN 26057 Type 2. German industrial standard for hoses used in pneumatic transport. Defines types, dimensions, pressure and vacuum requirements, and test procedures for industrial pneumatic hoses.
- EU 1935/2004. European framework regulation for materials in contact with food. The hose's components are tested to meet the general requirements for food contact.
- EU 10/2011. Plastics Implementation Measure — specific requirements for plastic materials in food contact. The hose is tested for categories A (aqueous), B (acidic pH<4.5), C (alcohol <20 %), D2 (dairy) and E (dry foods).
- FDA 21 CFR 177.2600. US Food and Drug Administration requirements for polyurethanes in food contact. The hose's food-grade approval is tested and documented in compliance with this regulation.
- REACH (EC 1907/2006). EU regulation on registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals. The hose's materials are REACH-compliant; manufacturer's declaration is available for download.
- RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU). Restriction of Hazardous Substances — restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in electronic products. The hose's components comply with RoHS limit values.
The hose is not ATEX-approved and not electrically conductive. For processes that require both food contact and explosion protection, specialty variants are available.

Industries that use it
AIRDUC® PUR 355 FOOD (HD) is used across many industrial settings. Common to all of them is the combination of abrasive media and food or pharma contact requirements.
In the food industry, the hose sits on central pneumatic transport lines where the medium is particularly abrasive — sugar, salt, flour, grain fractions. The HD wall resists wear from high throughput where an MD construction would be worn out too quickly.
In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used at tablet presses and powder transfer systems where the combination of full EU 10/2011 approval and heavy-duty wall is needed. In aquaculture, it appears in fish-feed transport — the full food approval covers biologically active media.
In agricultural, grain and animal-feed industries, it is used for bulk transfer on silo installations. In dairy and milk industries, it features in dairy processes. What unites these applications is that the combination of heavy-duty and full food approval is the selection criterion — no other construction covers both dimensions.
Custom lengths and assemblies
AIRDUC® PUR 355 FOOD (HD) can be cut to length and assembled with couplings, cuffs and threads to fit your installation precisely. We produce complete hose assemblies with crimped ferrules, clamp collars or threaded connections, depending on what the process requires.
For food installations, couplings and gaskets must also be food-grade for the complete installation to be compliant. We select materials matching the hose's certifications.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between FOOD (HD) and FOOD (MD)?
The HD variant has a heavier wall construction and is built for higher throughput of abrasive media. The MD variant is lighter and more flexible, ideal for less intensive applications. Both are food-grade with the same certifications.
Is the hose ATEX-approved?
No. AIRDUC® PUR 355 FOOD (HD) is not ATEX-approved and not conductive. For food processes with ATEX requirements, specialty variants are available. Contact us for advice.
Which food categories does the approval cover?
EU 10/2011 classifies foodstuffs into categories based on fat content, acidity and solubility. The hose is tested and approved for category A (aqueous), B (acidic pH<4.5), C (alcoholic <20%), D2 (dairy products) and E (dry products). This covers the great majority of industrial food streams.
Is the hose flame-retardant?
Yes. The hose complies with UL94-V2 for flame retardancy. This is a strong specification for food facilities where fire safety is a factor. Note that flame retardancy is not the same as ATEX conformity.
Can AIRDUC® PUR 355 FOOD (HD) be supplied in custom lengths?
Yes. The hose can be cut to length and assembled with food-grade couplings through Particulair's custom hose assemblies. Maximum production length varies from 10 to 30 m depending on diameter.
