Liquid hoses

LAVAFORM

LAVAFORM is a thermoplastic water hose developed specifically for washing machines. It withstands the pressure surges that arise during the spin and pump cycle, and is optimised for cold-water applications up to 60 C. The blue longitudinal stripe marks the cold-water variant in parallel installations.

Why this hose?

LAVAFORM is constructed with thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) as both outer and inner layer, with polyester plies as reinforcement. This provides a light, flexible hose that withstands continuous pressure cycling - one of the largest loads on a pump hose in daily operation.

The blue longitudinal stripe is a visual marker: in installations with both cold-water and hot-water hoses it is important they can easily be distinguished without labelling. LAVAFORM/EXTRA uses the same construction but with a red stripe and higher temperature capacity.

The pressure class (30 bar working pressure, 90 bar burst) provides a 3:1 safety margin that is critical for household appliances where pump surges can briefly exceed normal working pressure. The TPE construction tolerates thousands of cycles without permanent deformation.

Where it is used

Washing machines and dishwashers are the main application - both in household and industrial equipment. The hose is mounted between intake valve and pump, where it is subjected to water at varying pressure and brief peaks at cycle changes.

Hose pumps in cleaning equipment and industrial floor cleaning machines use LAVAFORM as water distribution at lower pressure classes. The TPE construction tolerates chemical residues from cleaning agents better than certain rubber alternatives.

Building installations (HVAC, facility services) use the hose as a connection at lower pressure classes where stainless steel piping would be overdimensioned. Standard hose clamps and quick couplings work fine on LAVAFORM.

LAVAFORM is colloquially known as a washing-machine hose or pump hose.

Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's factsheet. Overpressure and underpressure values are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend.

Standards and compliance

The hose is manufactured to European and international standards for industrial rubber and thermoplastic hoses. EN ISO 1307:2008 is the primary construction standard; other directives and certificates follow the manufacturer's quality system.

  • EN ISO 1307:2008. European standard for rubber and thermoplastic hoses for general applications. Defines dimensions, pressure tolerance, durability and marking.
  • EN ISO 8031:2020. Determination of electrical resistance in rubber and thermoplastic hoses. Used to confirm the hose's insulating character (water hoses are normally not conductive).
  • EN ISO 8033:2016. Test of adhesion between lining, wall material and reinforcement. Ensures the hose's layers stay bonded under pressure and flexing.
  • EN ISO 7233:2016. Determination of vacuum resistance. Relevant for water hoses operating with short-term negative pressure.
  • RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU). Restriction of hazardous substances in electrical/electronic equipment. Manufacturer declaration on file.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals. Manufacturer declaration on request.
  • ISO 9001:2015. Quality management system at the manufacturer. Ensures each production batch follows the same specification.

Help with material selection

Although this hose isn't ATEX-relevant, these two articles provide useful background on electrical resistance and industrial safety — important if you later combine the hose with electrical equipment or work in mixed environments:

Industries that use it

LAVAFORM is used predominantly in appliance manufacturing, laundries and cleaning equipment - where a standard water hose must handle daily pressure cycles for many years.

Appliance manufacturing is the core market: washing machines, dishwashers and combination appliances use LAVAFORM as internal water supply. OEM volumes are typically delivered in continuous rolls up to 200 m from the same batch.

In industrial laundries and cleaning equipment the hose often forms part of pump systems where pressure surges from start/stop cycles are one of the largest loads on the elastomer. The TPE construction is designed specifically for this use.

General building and machine installations use LAVAFORM as a connection between pump and discharge at moderate pressure classes. The hose is price-attractive when a specialised water hose is not necessary.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose can be delivered cut to desired lengths. The standard roll is 40 m, and shorter pieces or multiple rolls can be supplied by arrangement.

At Particulair we advise on couplings and sizing. Send us a sketch of your application and we will assess the right variant and length.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between LAVAFORM and LAVAFORM/EXTRA?

LAVAFORM is intended for cold-water applications (up to 60 C) and has a blue longitudinal stripe. LAVAFORM/EXTRA tolerates hot water (up to 95 C) and has a red longitudinal stripe. Both have the same TPE construction and the same pressure class (30 bar working pressure, 90 bar burst).

What material is the hose made from?

Both inner and outer layers are thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) with polyester plies as reinforcement. TPE provides low weight and high flexibility while withstanding the pressure surges from a washing machine's spin cycle.

What working pressure does the hose tolerate?

30 bar continuous working pressure and 90 bar burst pressure. That gives a 3:1 safety margin - critical because washing machine pumps create short-term pressure spikes at start and stop.

Can I use LAVAFORM for drinking water?

The hose is not specifically approved for drinking water contact (no EU 1935/2004 or FDA declaration on the factsheet). For drinking water applications we recommend a variant with explicit food approval - contact us for guidance.

Which couplings can be used?

Standard worm-drive clamps and industrial quick couplings work fine on LAVAFORM. Specific metal crimp clamps provide better leak protection in continuous operation. We are happy to advise on coupling choice based on your application scenario.

Is the hose ozone and UV resistant?

The factsheet does not explicitly specify ozone or UV resistance for LAVAFORM. TPE is typically less UV-stable than EPDM under prolonged outdoor exposure - for visible outdoor use we recommend TEMPERFORM or RADIACORD as alternatives.

How long does the hose last?

Service life depends on frequency of use, water quality and cleaning agents. Daily washing-machine operation typically gives 3-7 years. Monthly visual inspection for cracks or discolouration is recommended. At leakage or visible signs of degradation the hose must be replaced.

Can the hose be delivered in lengths other than 40 m?

Yes - 40 m is the standard roll, but we can deliver shorter cut pieces or multiple rolls by arrangement. For OEM use in appliance manufacturing we also offer continuous rolls up to 200 m from the same batch.
