Liquid hoses

EUROLON

EUROLON is a PVC lay-flat (flat) hose - a compact, price-attractive choice for temporary or seasonal water applications. Construction: PVC lining and PVC outer layer (both blue), 2 mm wall thickness across the entire dimension spectrum. Not a suction hose - only for media under positive pressure. Typically used in irrigation systems, building sites, drainage and municipal wastewater installations.

Why this hose?

EUROLON is built on a specific trade-off: in exchange for not being able to suck (no spiral-reinforced wall), you get a hose that is much lighter, cheaper and more compact than a spiral hose. For many water applications suction is not necessary - the pressure medium is already in place.

The PVC construction is price-attractive and covers the specific chemical resistance need for water, fertilizers and mild aqueous solutions. For strong acids or bases an EPDM or PUR lining would be necessary - but that is a smaller part of water applications.

The consistent 2 mm wall thickness across all 10 dimensions is a specific design choice: it eases logistics (same materials across the series), gives consistent flow resistance and means the user knows what they get regardless of size. Higher wall thicknesses would be over-dimensioned for lay-flat applications.

Where it is used

Agriculture and horticulture use the hose for irrigation systems where long installations (50-200 m) are normal. The lay-flat construction allows the hose to be moved between fields at season changes without heavy logistical manoeuvres.

Construction industry uses the hose as temporary water distribution on building sites. The light weight and compact storage make it a favourite for building projects where space conditions are constrained.

Aquaculture and municipal technology use the hose for water distribution in fish and shrimp installations and cleaning systems. The PVC construction is cost-effective and typically lasts 3-7 seasons in seasonal use - a good economic balance.

EUROLON is colloquially known as a flat hose, lay-flat hose or irrigation hose.

Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's factsheet. Overpressure and underpressure values are recommended operating limits; the product can be subjected to higher loads on request. Bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend.

Standards and compliance

The hose is manufactured to European standards for industrial PVC water hoses.

  • EN ISO 1307:2008. European standard for rubber and thermoplastic hoses for general use.
  • EN ISO 8033:2016. Test of adhesion between lining and wall material.
  • EN ISO 7233:2016. Determination of vacuum resistance - relevant for confirming the hose is NOT suction-rated.
  • DIN 14811. German standard for lay-flat fire hoses - reference framework for the hose's construction.
  • RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU). Restriction of hazardous substances.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). Registration of chemical substances.
  • ISO 9001:2015. Quality management system at the manufacturer.

Industries that use it

EUROLON is used where a compact, price-attractive water hose is necessary - typically seasonally or temporarily. The lay-flat construction reduces storage space by a factor of 10-20 compared to spiral-reinforced hoses.

Agriculture and horticulture is the main market. Irrigation and fertilizer systems require long hoses that can be rolled up for compact storage outside the season. Lay-flat is the optimal solution - a 100 m EUROLON roll takes up less than 1 m^2 in the storage room.

Construction industry uses the hose as temporary water distribution. The hose can be rolled out at the building site and rolled up again when changing position - a significant practical advantage compared to heavy spiral-reinforced hoses.

Emergency services and fire departments use the hose in some scenarios where lay-flat construction and compatibility with Storz couplings is decisive. It is not for high-pressure fire applications - for those specific requirements we use specialised fire hoses.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose can be delivered cut to desired lengths. The standard roll can be supplemented with shorter pieces or multiple rolls by arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

What is a lay-flat hose?

A lay-flat hose (or flat hose) is a hose that can be pressed flat when not filled with water. This provides a significant advantage in storage and transport - from being a 30+ cm-diameter cylindrical object it becomes an under-2cm flat strip. EUROLON rolls up to compact 50-100 m rolls on a standard spool.

Which media can EUROLON handle?

Water, mild aqueous solutions, fertilizers and ordinary wastewater media. The hose is NOT designed to suck from an empty source - it can only be used when the medium is already under pressure. For suction applications we recommend a hose with integrated spiral like HEDUFLEX.

What is the maximum temperature?

60 C in continuous operation, which covers most water applications. The hose is not designed for hot-water applications or steam - for higher temperatures we recommend RADIACORD or GOLDSCHLANGE.

Which dimensions does EUROLON come in?

A wide range from ID 25 mm to ID 203 mm - 10 standard dimensions. Wall thickness is consistent 2 mm across the spectrum. The standard roll is 100 m for the smaller dimensions and 50 m for the largest.

Can EUROLON be used outdoors?

Yes - the PVC construction is moderately UV-resistant and can lie visibly outdoors for several months without significant degradation. For permanent outdoor installation (years of continuous UV exposure) we recommend an EPDM or CR-based hose like GOLDSCHLANGE.

How long does the hose last?

Seasonal use in agriculture and construction typically gives 3-7 seasons. Continuous operation with PVC wall under UV gives shorter service life (1-3 years). The hose is price-attractive and typically used as semi-permanent or time-bounded installation - not in 10+ year permanent installations.

Which couplings are typical?

Storz couplings (fire department standard), bayonet couplings and standard hose clamps are all compatible with EUROLON. For permanent installation we recommend metal crimp clamps or chemically bonded couplings for leak protection.

Is the hose suitable for drinking water?

The hose is not specifically approved for drinking water contact (no EU 1935/2004 or FDA declaration on the factsheet). For drinking water applications we recommend a variant with explicit approval - contact us.
