Metal powder processes — including selective laser melting (SLM), direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) and electron beam melting (EBM) — generate fine, combustible metallic dust. Titanium, aluminium, stainless steel and reactive alloy powders can form explosive atmospheres in both Zone 1 (gas) and Zone 21 (dust). The Tiger-Vac ATEX-10A (40L) HEPA is designed precisely for this environment: a pneumatically driven vacuum with ATEX II 2GD certification, 40 litres of stainless steel 304 tank capacity, HEPA filtration and a resistance below 10 ohms throughout the entire system.

Because the motor is air-driven, there are no electrical ignition sources inside the vacuum. The unit can run continuously without heat build-up or wear — a decisive advantage in production environments where downtime is costly. At 68 dB(A), the noise level is among the lowest in its class for pneumatic equipment.

Dry recovery for metal powders

The ATEX-10A (40L) is configured for dry recovery: fine metal dust is captured in the 40-litre stainless steel tank through a combination of mechanical pre-separation and downstream HEPA filtration. The H14 HEPA filter retains 99.97% of particles at 0.3 micron, ensuring that nothing escapes into the surrounding atmosphere. Emptying is straightforward, and the tank can be lined with conductive disposable bags for dust-free disposal.

It is designed for environments where explosive gas or combustible dust may be present during normal operation — which is typical for metal powder 3D printing facilities.
Metal powders used in additive manufacturing — titanium, aluminium, stainless steel and reactive alloys — are combustible and potentially explosive when dispersed as fine dust. A pneumatic motor eliminates the ignition risk from electric sparks, and can operate continuously without overheating or wear. This makes the ATEX-10A (40L) well-suited to ongoing powder handling during and after print cycles.
The vacuum is equipped with an H14 HEPA filter rated at 99.97% efficiency at 0.3 micron. This level of filtration captures even fine metallic particles — including nanoscale fractions that can arise from reactive powder handling — ensuring they do not re-enter the cleanroom or production atmosphere.
The ATEX-10A (40L) requires compressed air at 5.5 bar with an air volume of 16.5–21.2 L/s and a minimum compressor output of 15 HP. The built-in pressure regulator is factory-set at 5.5 bar and is adjustable between 0 and 10 bar. The compressed air connection uses a 1/2” (12.7 mm) air line.
The ATEX-10A (40L) HEPA complies with EN 17348:2022, the harmonised European standard for vacuum cleaners used in explosive atmospheres. The standard was harmonised under the ATEX Directive in March 2023 and under the Machinery Directive in August 2024. All conductive parts of the vacuum measure below 10 ohms.
Yes. The vacuum is available with a dedicated 3D printing tool kit (model 113117-3D). The kit is designed for a 1.5” camlock suction inlet and includes static-dissipative tools suited to metal powder recovery on powder beds, nozzles and build chambers. All tools in the kit are electrically conductive and compatible with the ATEX requirements of the vacuum.
