Zone 20 internally — the highest protection class for the collection tank

The C-10 EX (4W) is Tiger-Vac's electric ATEX vacuum cleaner for 3D printing environments handling combustible plastic powder, and it stands apart through a distinctive dual classification: II 1/3D. This means the unit is certified for Zone 22 externally — the standard requirement for ATEX vacuum cleaners in production environments — but in addition, the construction provides Zone 20 protection inside the collection tank. Zone 20 is the most stringent dust classification, covering areas where an explosive dust cloud is present continuously or for long periods. Inside a vacuum cleaner collecting combustible powder, that is precisely the condition that applies — and the C-10 EX is built accordingly.

The unit is 3rd party certified by LCIE (NB 0081) with both ATEX certificate LCIE 15 ATEX 3061 and IECEx certificate IECEx LCIE 15.0048. The IECEx certification is the international certificate recognised in over 30 countries beyond the EU — including Norway, Switzerland, Australia, South Africa and many countries in the Middle East and Asia. For companies procuring centrally for facilities in multiple countries, or trading with international partners who require ATEX documentation, this is a significant advantage.

4 HEPA H14 filters — covering both working air and cooling air

What truly distinguishes the C-10 EX from conventional ATEX vacuum cleaners is the filtration system. While most models have one or two HEPA filters on the exhaust side, the C-10 EX has four HEPA H14 filters positioned so that both the working air and the motor cooling air are filtered through HEPA on both inlet and outlet. No air passes through the motor without passing through a HEPA filter — in either direction. All four filters are individually factory tested before dispatch.

Before reaching the HEPA filters, dust first encounters the conductive cloth filter with support cage, which captures coarse particles and protects the HEPA elements. The conductive disposable bag (19 L) collects the material and can be changed hygienically without contact with the powder. A conductive poly liner (40 L) is included as a secondary containment barrier. The filter blockage indicator on the motor unit signals when the bag is approaching capacity.

Frequently asked questions

II 1/3D is a composite ATEX classification covering two levels simultaneously: the internal (1D = Zone 20) and the external (3D = Zone 22). This means the C-10 EX may be used in production areas classified as Zone 22, but the collection tank inside the machine is engineered to withstand Zone 20 conditions — that is, an atmosphere where combustible dust is present continuously or for extended periods. That is precisely what occurs inside a working vacuum cleaner. This dual classification provides documented assurance for both the operator and the health and safety manager.
The ATEX Directive applies within the EU/EEA. IECEx is an international certification scheme under the IEC, recognised in more than 30 countries — including Norway, Switzerland, Australia, South Africa and many countries across the Middle East and Asia. For companies procuring centrally for facilities in multiple countries, or working with international partners who require ATEX documentation, the fact that the C-10 EX holds both certificates is a significant practical advantage. Same assessment, same certifying body (LCIE, NB 0081), but with global validity.
A bypass motor draws a separate stream of cooling air across the motor to maintain operating temperature. In a conventional vacuum cleaner, this cooling air is unfiltered — drawn in and exhausted without HEPA filtration. In the C-10 EX, both the cooling air and the working air are filtered through HEPA H14 on both inlet and outlet: two filters on cooling air and two on working air. This is precisely what makes Zone 20 internal tank protection possible — no unfiltered air passes the motor, and no particles from the motor side can reach the tank atmosphere.
SAE 430 is a ferritic stainless steel with good corrosion resistance in most environments and is the standard choice for plastic powder from 3D printing. SAE 304 is an austenitic stainless steel with higher nickel content and better resistance to acids and chloride-rich environments. Facilities where cleaning agents containing chlorine compounds are used, or where the unit is cleaned with wet mops and chemicals, may favour SAE 304. The SAE 304 tank adds 3 kg (from 24 to 27 kg). Contact Particulair for advice on the right choice for your environment.
The brushless motor (BLSD) is an option offering longer motor service life, fewer mechanical wear points and lower heat generation during extended operating intervals. With the BLSD motor version, the ATEX temperature class changes: T200°C (bypass) becomes T85°C (BLSD) — a stricter and more conservative temperature class covering even lower ignition temperatures. The BLSD version is always supplied with 4×HEPA H14 filters as standard. Contact Particulair for pricing and lead time.
