ACD — documented safety in ordinary locations

The MTL 302 ACD is Delfin's vacuum cleaner for production environments handling combustible plastic powder from 3D printing where the surroundings are not ATEX-zoned. ACD stands for Applied for Combustible Dust and is not a generic marketing term — it is a technical classification requiring 3rd party certification by a notified body. The MTL 302 ACD is certified by IMQ (Istituto Italiano del Marchio di Qualità, NB 0738) to the marking II 1/-D, documenting that the tank interior is protected to Zone 20 standard.

This is an important distinction: many vacuum cleaners on the market carry the ACD label without being certified for internal Zone 20. The -/1D marking and a certificate from a notified body are the only way to demonstrate to an auditor that the machine genuinely meets the requirements of EN 17348 for collecting combustible dust in unclassified locations.

HEPA H14, M-class filter and manual filter shaking

The filter system consists of a primary Star/Tasche filter in antistatic polyester class M (IEC 60335-2-69) and a HEPA H14 safety filter (99.995 % at MPPS, EN 1822-5). M-class antistatic disposable bags are included as standard — the bag collects the vacuumed powder and can be changed hygienically without direct operator contact. The manual filter shaking function dislodges accumulated dust from the filter without opening the machine.

The powerful 2.2 kW bypass motor delivers 360 m³/h at 2500 mmH₂O vacuum pressure — the highest suction performance in Delfin's MTL range for 3D printing, suited for high-volume collection at large printers or intensive cleaning tasks. Noise level is 74 dB(A) (EN ISO 3744). The control panel has a green/red filter indicator and a no-voltage relay that protects against unintended restart after a power outage.

ACD (Applied for Combustible Dust) is a technical classification for use in locations that are not ATEX-zoned — typically production rooms, laboratories and packing areas where combustible dust may occur sporadically. The key requirement is that the machine is certified for internal Zone 20 by a notified body, so that the tank atmosphere is protected against ignition during operation. ATEX is mandatory as soon as the production environment is formally classified as Zone 20, 21 or 22 — in that case ACD cannot replace a fully ATEX-certified model. If you are in any doubt about the classification of your environment, we recommend a consultation before selecting a model.
II denotes surface installation (not mining). 1D is category 1 for dust — the highest protection level corresponding to Zone 20, where an explosive dust atmosphere may be present continuously or frequently. The dash before (“-/1D”) indicates that category 1D applies only to the machine's interior — there is no ATEX approval for the external surfaces. The machine may therefore be placed in unclassified locations but not in an external ATEX zone. EPL Da (Equipment Protection Level) confirms the high internal protection level. T80°C is the maximum surface temperature on internal components.
M-class (IEC 60335-2-69) is the highest filter class for vacuum cleaner primary filters and requires a retention efficiency of at least 99.9 % for particles down to the relevant size range. The antistatic material ensures that electrostatic charge does not build up in the bag during operation — a critical property when the collected material is combustible. The marking IIIC T80°C Da covers dust group IIIC (including conductive and non-conductive organic dust) at a maximum surface temperature of 80°C. This is relevant for typical plastic powders from SLS/MJF 3D printing (PA12, PA11, TPU) as well as for organic dusts such as starch, sugar, lactose and API powders with comparable ignition characteristics.
