Powder that would otherwise go to waste

The EXP1-20 DT (PRS-HEC) is Tiger-Vac's electric powder recovery system for metal powder 3D printing. The integrated high-efficiency cyclone (HEC) separates up to 98 % of the recovered powder from the airstream and collects it in the detachable stainless steel SAE 304 recovery tank — before the air ever reaches the HEPA H14 filter. The powder remains clean, ready for sieving and direct reuse.

The TEFC motor (Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled) is sealed and cooled externally, meaning it draws no ambient air into the motor housing — a prerequisite for safe operation in rooms where explosive dust is present. The unit is third-party certified for Zone 21 and Zone 22 by notified body LCIE (LCIE 03 ATEX 6297).

The entire contact surface is constructed in stainless steel SAE 304, CE marked in accordance with EN 17348. All included accessories are ESD-safe and approved for use in ATEX-classified areas.

Frequently asked questions

A standard ATEX vacuum collects everything and passes the air directly through the filter. The EXP1-20 DT (PRS-HEC) is a powder recovery system: the integrated cyclone separates up to 98 % of the powder from the airstream and directs it into the detachable recovery tank — clean and uncontaminated — before the HEPA filter. The powder can then be sieved and returned to the print process.
TEFC stands for Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled. The motor housing is completely sealed — no ambient air is drawn through the motor windings. Cooling is provided by an external fan on the motor shaft. In ATEX-classified areas this is critical, because an open motor would directly expose the electrical components to explosive dust.
The EXP1-20 is certified for Zone 21 and Zone 22 under ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU. Zone 22 covers areas where explosive dust atmospheres occur only infrequently and briefly. Zone 21 covers areas where explosive dust atmospheres may occur periodically. The certificate was issued by notified body LCIE (LCIE 03 ATEX 6297).
Yes — that is the purpose of the PRS system. Because the cyclone separates 98 % of the powder from the airstream before the filter, the powder arrives in the recovery tank clean and uncontaminated. It can then be sieved to the desired particle size and returned to the print process.
Yes. The PRS system is designed for all forms of additive manufacturing. For metal powder the ATEX certification is particularly relevant, as conductive metal powders — aluminium, titanium, stainless steel — can form explosive atmospheres. The ESD-safe construction ensures correct dissipation of static electricity.
The EXP1-20 uses two-stage filtration: first the integrated HEC cyclone as a mechanical pre-separator (no filter media, cannot become blocked), then a HEPA H14 filter (99.995 % at 0.3 µm) as a secondary safety barrier. A PTFE-laminated cloth primary filter is included. An optional pre-filter is available to extend HEPA filter service life.
