What is the Tiger-Vac CR-1 ULPA?

The CR-1 ULPA is a compact, mobile cleanroom vacuum cleaner from Tiger-Vac, designed specifically for contamination-controlled environments in pharmaceutical manufacturing, laboratories and the semiconductor industry. The model is compatible with ISO Class 4 (formerly US Fed. Std. 209E Class 10) and therefore meets the requirements for cleaning in the most stringently classified production zones.

The vacuum's three-stage filtration system consists of a synthetic disposable filter bag, a primary cloth filter and a ULPA U15 final filter. The ULPA filter retains at least 99.9995 % of all particles at MPPS (Most Penetrating Particle Size) and is individually aerosol leak tested before leaving the factory. This is a guarantee that few competitors routinely offer.

The Thru-Flow motor ensures that all air — including the cooling air — passes through the ULPA filter before being exhausted into the room. There are therefore no uncontrolled particle sources in the vacuum's airstream. The noise level is just 60 dB(A) at 2 metres, which is markedly lower than comparable models and important in environments with prolonged use.

Important use restriction: The CR-1 ULPA is designed exclusively for the collection of dry particles and dust. The model must not be used for liquids, slurry or wet material, as the suction motor is not protected against moisture. For combined dry and wet recovery in cleanroom environments, the CR-1300WD or an equivalent wet/dry model is recommended.

Options and upgrades

The CR-1 ULPA can be supplied with a stainless steel tank (SAE 430) instead of the standard plastic tank — relevant when the cleaning protocol requires aggressive chemical disinfection or autoclaving of the tank. The filter housing (part no. 214860) is also available as an option; it encloses the ULPA filter, provides better protection and makes replacement more secure.

Questions and answers

HEPA H14 retains at least 99.995 % of particles at MPPS (the particle size that penetrates a filter most easily, typically 0.1–0.3 µm). ULPA U15 goes one step further, retaining at least 99.9995 % at MPPS — a factor of 10 better than HEPA H14. In practice, for every million particles in the intake air, at most 0.5 particles pass through a ULPA U15 filter, compared to up to 5 with HEPA H14. ULPA is required from ISO Class 4 upwards, and is always recommended when handling highly potent substances regardless of ISO class.
Tiger-Vac tests each individual ULPA filter with an aerosol test before it is installed in the vacuum unit. The test result is noted directly on the filter. In addition, Tiger-Vac performs an aerosol leak test on the complete vacuum unit before it leaves the factory — a test that checks not only the filter but also the gaskets and all joints in the airpath. This is a service that few competitors routinely offer, and it provides documented assurance that the vacuum's actual performance matches the filter classification.
Yes. The CR-1 ULPA is designed for pharmaceutical applications and is compatible with ISO Class 4, which is sufficient for most GMP-classified production zones (Grade B–D). The vacuum's CE marking is based on the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU and the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU. Validation documentation (EU Declaration of Conformity and filter test report) is available on request.
The CR-1 ULPA is designed exclusively for dry recovery. The suction motor is not protected against moisture, and liquid reaching the motor will damage it or compromise the ULPA filter's function. Moisture in the filter medium would also reduce filter efficiency. For environments with both dry and wet material, the CR-1300WD is a relevant alternative with an approved wet/dry motor and ULPA filtration.
The standard tank is made of white ABS plastic and is easy to clean with standard cleaning agents. The stainless steel variant (SAE 430) is appropriate when the cleaning protocol requires aggressive chemical disinfection or autoclaving of the tank, when there is a risk of strong colour staining from the collected material, or when the aesthetic requirements of the environment favour a stainless steel appearance. The stainless steel tank does not change the filter class or any other specifications.
The CR-1 ULPA uses synthetic microfilter disposable bags (part no. 212500, pack of 5). The synthetic collection bag seals tightly when removed from the tank, so the collected material is not dispersed. In environments with highly potent substances (OEB 3), the bag should also be handled with gloves and disposed of in accordance with the facility's waste procedure for contaminated material.
