What is the Tiger-Vac CWR MRAC?

The CWR MRAC series is Tiger-Vac's pharmaceutical wet and dry recovery vacuum for cleanroom environments, designed for applications where dust and liquids are accompanied by toxic fumes or vapours from organic solvents. The defining feature is the Middle Ring with Activated Carbon (MRAC) — an intermediate ring containing 8 kg of activated carbon pellets, mounted between the collection tank and the filter housing to adsorb vapours that would otherwise pass through the filtration system. The ring is an optional component, but the series is purpose-built around it.

The 5-stage filtration system consists of a synthetic disposable bag, a double cloth filter, and two ULPA U15 final filters — one for the working air and one for the motor cooling air. This means all air leaving the vacuum, including the air used to cool the motor, is filtered before being exhausted into the room. Each ULPA U15 filter retains at least 99.9995 % of all particles at MPPS and is individually aerosol tested before dispatch from the factory.

The vacuum is EMI/RFI shielded and electrically rated as static dissipating with a resistance below 10 ohm, making it suitable for use near sensitive electronic equipment and in environments with ESD control requirements. The unit is available with a stainless steel tank in two capacities (CWR-10: 28.4 L and CWR-15: 47.3 L), and the CWR-15 is also available with a polyethylene tank (POLY MRAC) as an alternative to stainless steel.

Activated carbon as an option: The MRAC ring is an optional component and is not supplied as standard. It must be specified at the time of order. Four carbon types are available depending on the fumes to be adsorbed — see the “Options and upgrades” section below.

Options and upgrades

The activated carbon MRAC ring is the key optional feature of the series and must be specified at the time of order. Four carbon cartridge types are available depending on the chemical exposure in the production environment:

As an alternative to the ULPA filter in the MRAC configuration, an internal HEPA filter (part no. 211027B, 99.995 % at 0.3 µm) can be fitted where ULPA U15 over-specifies the application. The needle trap (part no. 215500) in electropolished stainless steel is a key option for environments handling needles, glass fragments and other sharps.

Questions and answers

An activated carbon filter works by adsorption — gas molecules are physically bound to the surface of the pores in the carbon. Unlike a ULPA filter, which captures particles, the activated carbon filter is designed to handle vapours and gases that are too small to be retained even by ULPA U15. It is particularly relevant in production environments with organic solvents, mercury-containing compounds, chlorine compounds, or toxic gases such as arsine and phosphine.
Tiger-Vac offers four carbon cartridge types for the MRAC ring. Standard 3 mm activated carbon (part 212200B) covers most organic solvents. Mersorb carbon (part 212200C) is specifically designed for mercury vapours. KOGC3/KINA3 carbon (part 212200K) is developed for chloride vapours. A-3 carbon (part 212200L) handles arsine and phosphine vapours, which are particularly relevant in semiconductor manufacturing and certain chemical laboratories. Yes. The CWR MRAC is classified as pharmaceutical grade and is compatible with ISO Class 4, corresponding to GMP Grade A/B environments. CE marking is based on the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU and EMC Directive 2014/30/EU. Filter documentation for each individual ULPA U15 filter can be provided on request and supports the validation process.
Both models share the same motor (1 kW bypass), air flow (189 m³/h), vacuum pressure (2,180 mmH₂O) and filtration system. The difference is solely in tank capacity: the CWR-10 has a stainless steel tank of 28.4 L (113 cm tall, 44 kg). The CWR-15 has a 47.3 L tank (122 cm tall, 45 kg) and is also available with a polyethylene tank (POLY MRAC).
The needle trap (part no. 215500) in electropolished stainless steel is mounted in the suction flow and intercepts needles, glass fragments and other sharps before they reach the hose and filters. It is particularly relevant in laboratories and pharmaceutical production environments where glass ampoules, needles or sharp waste items are routinely collected.
