Why this hose?

AIRDUC® PUR 350 FOOD-AS (MD) combines three properties that rarely sit in one place: food-grade approval per EU 10/2011 + EC 1935/2004 + FDA 21 CFR 177.2600, an antistatic wall (<109 Ω) and a medium-duty PUR construction light enough for mobile applications. It is a combination that specifically covers food production and pharmaceutical powders in ATEX-classified zones.

Food-grade approval covers EU 10/2011 categories (test conditions are detailed in the factsheet) and is supplemented by GMP manufacturing per EC 2023/2006 — that is, it is manufactured under a quality management system in which traceability and contamination control are documented. That distinguishes it from plainly food-contact-approved PUR without GMP attestation.

The antistatic level (<109 Ω) meets TRGS 727 and NFPA 652. That means the hose can be used in Zone 22 (dust) and Zone 1/2 (gas), provided it is properly grounded. For corresponding food applications without ATEX requirements, 351 FOOD (MD) is the recommended standard — it is the technically broadest food hose in the range.

Food dust and ATEX

Food dust can explode. Flour, sugar, cocoa, grain and milk powder are all documented as combustible under the right conditions (fine particle size, dust cloud, ignition source). That's why ATEX approval isn't only for chemical industry -- food factories have Zone 21 and 22 areas where antistatic or conductive hoses are required.

Where it is used

The hose is used where food contact and ATEX zone requirements arise simultaneously — that is a combination not common in the market, and it is the primary reason 350 FOOD-AS exists as a distinct product compared to the standard 350 AS (without food).

In practice it is most often seen on pneumatic transport lines where bulk food or pharmaceutical powders are conveyed between silos, dosing installations and packaging machines. The smooth inner surface reduces residues sticking to the wall and can be effectively cleaned between batches.

Other applications are industrial vacuum cleaners in food production, tablet presses in pharma, and central extraction systems at production where the dust is food-contact-related but simultaneously flammable. The size range is the classical AIRDUC MD scale — from Ø 25 mm up to the larger bulk dimensions.

The formal product name is AIRDUC® PUR 350 FOOD-AS (MD). In daily conversation we refer to it as an antistatic food hose or AIRDUC FOOD-AS hose.

Note: Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's data sheet. Overpressure and underpressure are recommended operating limits; products can be subjected to higher loads on request. The bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend. Contact us for full specifications or special variants.

Standards and compliance

The hose is tested and documented in compliance with the following standards:

  • EU 10/2011 (Cat. E). EU regulation on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. The hose is tested in Category E (dry food at up to 70 °C).
  • EU 1935/2004. EU framework regulation for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. The general compliance baseline.
  • FDA 21 CFR 177.2600. US Food and Drug Administration specification for polyurethanes in food contact.
  • GMP EC 2023/2006. EU regulation on good manufacturing practice for food contact materials.
  • ATEX 2014/34/EU and TRGS 727. The hose's antistatic wall meets the requirements for conveying combustible food dust in ATEX Zone 21 and 22.
  • DIN 26057 Type 2. German industry standard for hoses for pneumatic conveying; Type 2 covers MD constructions.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). EU regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals. The hose materials comply with REACH; a manufacturer declaration is available for download.
  • RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU). Restriction of Hazardous Substances -- restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in products. The hose components comply with the RoHS limit values.

Industries that use it

The hose is used across a wide range of industries where food approval and antistatic dissipation are combined.

In the food industry, 350 FOOD-AS (MD) is the default choice on pneumatic transport lines for dry foodstuffs — flour, sugar, grain, spices and other granular ingredients. It covers EU 10/2011 and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600, and GMP manufacturing per EC 2023/2006 means traceability and the likelihood of contamination is documented throughout the production chain.

In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used for powder handling at tablet presses and dosing installations, where the antistatic property is decisive — fine powders develop electrostatic charges in transit, and that is a genuine ignition source in classified zones. The hose is ATEX-approved for Zone 0/1/2 (gas) and Zone 20/21/22 (dust), so pharmaceutical production with flammable fine powders is covered.

In agriculture and animal-feed industries, it sits in grain, seed and feed handling on silo installations and pneumatic conveying systems. In chemical and ceramic industries, it is used for granulates and powders where the medium may simultaneously develop electrostatic sparks. The broad ATEX approval means the same hose can be used across processes where a standard food hose (without AS) would not meet the zone requirements.

Custom lengths and assemblies

AIRDUC® PUR 350 FOOD-AS (MD) can be cut to length and assembled with cuffs, ferrules and threads to fit your installation precisely. We supply finished hose assemblies with crimped ferrules, clamping cuffs or threaded connections depending on what the process requires.

For ATEX installations it is particularly important that couplings and assemblies preserve the hose's electrical continuity. The whole system has to dissipate static electricity to ground -- not the hose alone.

Frequently asked questions

Is the hose approved for direct food contact?

Yes. The hose is approved per EU 10/2011 (plastics in contact with food), EU 1935/2004 (framework regulation) and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600. This means the materials are tested and documented for direct contact with food under specified conditions.

What does GMP EC 2023/2006 mean?

EC 2023/2006 is the EU regulation on good manufacturing practice (GMP) for materials intended for food contact. The hose is produced under a quality system that meets the requirements -- from raw materials to finished product.

Is the hose ATEX approved?

Yes. The hose complies with ATEX 2014/34/EU and TRGS 727 for the zones specified by the ATEX marking. This is particularly relevant when conveying flour, sugar and other combustible food dust where ignition risk has to be controlled.

Can the hose be cleaned in place (CIP/SIP)?

It depends on the temperature and the cleaning agent. The hose tolerates temperatures within its normal range -- if the CIP cycle runs above this, a high-temperature hose may be a better fit. The chemical resistance table shows material tolerance against cleaning agents.

Can I have the hose cut to length?

Yes. AIRDUC® PUR 350 FOOD-AS (MD) is cut to your length and we fit food-grade couplings and assemblies so the installation meets hygiene requirements.

What is the lead time?

Standard variants are typically in stock with a few days' lead time. Special variants depend on the manufacturer's production -- we give you a precise date when you contact us.
