Why this hose?
NORPLAST® PUR 385 AIRFLEX®/PU/FOOD is a multi-purpose food hose — designed to handle liquid, dry and oily food media in the same installation. It's rare for one hose type to cover all three media types at operating temperature.
The lower temperature limit (+40 °C) compared to NORFLEX® PUR 441 FOOD reflects optimisation for oily media where higher temperatures could compromise the PUR wall.
Where it is used
In beverage production it's used for transport of both juice and oily ingredients on the same line.
In dairy it sits on multi-medium installations handling both milk and butter-based media.
In everyday talk we call it a "multi-food PU" — it covers broader than specific food-grade hoses.

Help with material selection
Although this hose isn't ATEX-relevant, these two articles provide useful background on electrical resistance and industrial safety — important if you later combine the hose with electrical equipment or work in mixed environments:
The invisible weakest link
Why a conductive or antistatic hose isn't sufficient on its own — and what grounding means for the complete system.
Know your ohm
The difference between antistatic and conductive, which resistance limits apply where, and how to measure them correctly.
Industries that use it
NORPLAST® PUR 385 AIRFLEX®/PU/FOOD is used in food industry with multi-medium needs:
In beverage production it's standard on mixed installations handling both aqueous and oily ingredients.
In dairy and feed it's used where PUR lining's oil compatibility is decisive.
Custom lengths and assemblies
The hose is delivered on rolls and cut to length with couplings as a finished assembly.
For serial deliveries we can establish consistent assembly.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between AIRFLEX/PU/FOOD and AIRFLEX/AS?
PU/FOOD is food-grade PUR without antistatic. AIRFLEX/AS is PUR-C with grounding wire for ATEX. Choose PU/FOOD for food production without ATEX requirements; choose AS for ATEX zones.
Why only +40 °C?
Optimisation for oily media (oils, butter) sets a lower temperature limit than pure water-based food-grade hoses. The PUR wall can be compromised at higher temperatures when in contact with oily media.
Does it tolerate hot water for CIP?
+40 °C is too low for standard CIP. For CIP choose a silicone hose (NORFLEX® SIL 408) or PUR food-grade hose with higher temperature limit (NORFLEX® PUR 441 FOOD).
What's the advantage of multi-medium?
Same hose type can be used across multiple process steps. This simplifies procurement and inventory, and reduces the risk of misassembly.
Is it ATEX-approved?
No, the PU FOOD version is insulating.
Can I get it with hygiene couplings?
Yes. We fit SMS, Tri-Clamp or DIN 11851 as a finished assembly.
