Why this hose?

NORPLAST® PVC 384 SCIROPPO®/AS solves two problems at once: food-grade compliance and antistatic property. It's a combination needed in specific food processes where powder or granulate flow builds static charge while the material must be safe in food contact.

EU 10/2011 in categories A, B, C AND E makes the hose usable in the food chain regardless of whether the medium is dry (A), aqueous (B), acidic or alcoholic (C), or contains spices (E). It broadly covers most food-based productions. (GMP) EU 2023/2006 also ensures good manufacturing practice for food-contact materials.

Sciroppo means "syrup" The name SCIROPPO reflects the hose's original primary application: syrup transport in confectionery and beverage production. It's since been used more broadly — granulates, powders and general food-grade transport.

Where it is used

In the beverage industry the hose typically sits on syrup and concentrate dosing lines. The antistatic property is important because concentrates are often transported at higher flow rates where static accumulation can be a problem.

In feed and grain industries it's used for transport of wood pellets, grain and similar granulates. Here the combination of food-grade (relevant for feed intended for consumption animals) and antistatic (explosion prevention in closed pneumatic systems) is decisive.

In everyday talk we call it a "food AS hose" or "syrup hose" — the combination of food + antistatic is rare and specific.

Standards and compliance

NORPLAST® PVC 384 SCIROPPO®/AS conforms to:

  • EU 10/2011 cat. A, B, C, E. Materials in contact with food for dry, aqueous, acidic/alcoholic and spice-based media.
  • EU 1935/2004. General framework for materials in contact with food.
  • (GMP) EU 2023/2006. Good Manufacturing Practice for food contact materials.
  • ISO 8031. Test standard for electrical resistance.
  • REACH and RoHS. EU directives for chemicals.

Industries that use it

NORPLAST® PVC 384 SCIROPPO®/AS is specialised where food-grade and antistatic must be combined:

In the beverage industry it's standard on syrup dosing lines and concentrate transport. EU 10/2011 cat. C (acidic/alcoholic media) is particularly relevant for juices and spirits.

In feed industries it's used for wood pellet and grain pneumatics, where dust explosion is a real risk. The antistatic property + food-grade compliance is the combination that makes the hose specifically suitable.

Custom lengths and assemblies

The hose is delivered on 50 m rolls. We cut to length and fit Camlock, clamp ring or hygiene couplings as a finished assembly — important that the coupling is also food-grade approved.

For serial deliveries we can establish consistent assembly across the delivery.

Frequently asked questions

What is EU 10/2011 category E?

Category E is a specific EU 10/2011 food contact classification for materials that come in contact with foods containing spices, herbs, essential oils and similar aroma-rich media. The hose is certified for category A, B, C AND E — covering broader than most food-grade hoses.

What does GMP EU 2023/2006 mean?

Good Manufacturing Practice — EU regulation specifying quality standards for manufacturing of food contact materials. It's a plus signal indicating the manufacturer has documented quality processes beyond just material compliance.

What's the difference between SCIROPPO/AS and standard food-grade hoses?

SCIROPPO/AS combines food-grade with antistatic properties. It's a rare combination — most food-grade hoses are insulating, and most antistatic hoses aren't food-grade. Choose SCIROPPO/AS when you have both requirements simultaneously.

Does the hose need to be grounded?

Yes. The antistatic property only works if the hose is correctly grounded. Without grounding, charge just builds up in the hose instead of being dissipated.

Does it tolerate hot CIP cleaning?

Up to +60 °C continuous. This covers many CIP cycles but not all (especially steam-based SIP cycles above +90 °C). For warmer CIP/SIP choose a silicone hose (NORFLEX® SIL 408 tolerates +180 °C).

Can I use it for dairy products?

Yes, EU 10/2011 cat. B (aqueous foods) covers dairy. For specific milk-fat applications cross-check against category D1 — the hose isn't specifically certified for D1, but cat. B + C covers most dairy applications.
