What is the Tiger-Vac SS-ARU-15 EX (TC) MRAC?

The SS-ARU-15 EX (TC) MRAC is a pneumatic wet vacuum from Tiger-Vac, built for safe recovery of acids, corrosive liquids and corrosive compounds in hazardous areas classified to ATEX Zone 1 (gas) and Zone 21 (combustible dust). The machine is third-party ATEX-certified by LCIE (Bureau Veritas) under certificate number LCIE 03 ATEX 6310 X and carries the marking II 2GD / Ex h IIC T6 Gb / Ex h IIIC T85°C Db.

Because the machine is pneumatically driven via a single Venturi with a 6 mm nozzle, there are no electrical components in the hazardous zone. Compressed air is supplied through a ½″ (12.7 mm) air line from a compressor rated at a minimum of 15 HP. At an input pressure of 5.5 bar the machine delivers an air volume of 21.2 L/s, an air flow of 187 m³/h and a vacuum pressure of up to 4,320 mmH₂O — significantly higher than the electric CWR-ARU-15 (2,180 mmH₂O).

The entire construction is static dissipative and grounded to eliminate the risk of spark formation. The tank and wetted parts are manufactured from acid-resistant polyethylene, nylon and PVC. The HEPA filter retains 99.995% of particles at 0.3 µm and is included. For handling chlorides, hydrogen fluoride (HF), hydrochloric acid (HCl) and other acid vapours, an optional activated carbon filter can be fitted, with four carbon types available.

Compressor requirement: The SS-ARU-15 EX requires a compressor rated at a minimum of 15 HP with an operating pressure of at least 5.5 bar. The compressor must be located outside the classified zone unless it is itself ATEX-certified.

Questions and answers

Both are acid wet vacuums with a 47.3 L tank for recovery of corrosive liquids. The key difference is that the SS-ARU-15 EX is pneumatic, ATEX-certified and static dissipative — rated for Zone 1 (gas) and Zone 21 (dust). The CWR-ARU-15, by contrast, is electric, not ATEX-certified, and intended exclusively for non-explosive environments. The SS-ARU-15 EX also delivers significantly higher vacuum pressure (4,320 vs. 2,180 mmH₂O) thanks to its Venturi drive.
II 2GD indicates that the equipment is intended for use in areas with explosive atmosphere (Group II), Category 2 for both gas (G) and dust (D). This corresponds to Zone 1 for gas and Zone 21 for dust — areas where an explosive atmosphere is expected to occur periodically during normal operation. Ex h IIC T6 Gb indicates the highest gas group (IIC, including hydrogen and acetylene) and temperature class T6 (max. surface 85°C). The certification was issued by LCIE (Bureau Veritas) in Fontenay-aux-Roses, France.

In an explosive atmosphere, even a small electrostatic discharge can be sufficient to ignite a gas or dust cloud. Static dissipative materials conduct charge away from the surface to earth, preventing the accumulation of enough energy for an ignition-capable spark. The SS-ARU-15 EX is constructed so that all wetted parts are electrostatically conductive or dissipative and connected to earth. This is a requirement under Directive 2014/34/EU for ATEX equipment.
MRAC stands for Manual Reset Automatic Cleaning. The filter cleaning cycle is triggered automatically during operation, but must be manually reset by the operator before the next start-up. This ensures the operator actively confirms the machine status in accordance with GMP principles for documentation and process control.
Yes. Four carbon cartridges are available as options: standard activated carbon (part no. 212200B), Mersorb® for mercury vapours (part no. 212200C), KINA 3®/KOGC3 for chloride and acid vapours (part no. 212200K), and A-3 for arsine and phosphine (part no. 212200L). The cartridge is placed between the liquid filter and the HEPA filter. When the carbon cartridge is not fitted, a flanged ring assembly (part no. 213673) is required.
