Tiger-Vac SS-10 (4W) SK HEPA
Tiger-Vac SS-10 (4W) SK HEPA is a complete sanding system for hazardous areas: an air-powered ATEX vacuum with random orbital sander, hoses, a start-up kit of abrasives and filters, ready to use. Tiger-Vac calls it a Dustless Sanding Kit. The dust is extracted at the sander, where it is generated, instead of settling in the area, where it can be stirred up again and form an explosive dust cloud.
The sander is driven by air from the vacuum. Compressed air runs from the compressor to the machine in one air hose, and from there on to the sander in a combined suction and air hose with a protective sleeve. Suction is created by a single 6 mm venturi, and the vacuum has neither electrical parts nor moving mechanical parts. It is therefore certified in ATEX temperature class T6 with a maximum surface temperature of 85°C and marked II 2GD for Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust.
The vacuum is dual-certified under ATEX (LCIE 03 ATEX 6310 X) and IECEx (LCIE 17.0076 X) and marked EN 17348 DT for combustible dust collection. It is built for dry recovery into a 19 litre disposable filter bag, followed by a static dissipative main cloth filter and a HEPA H14 filter. The whole machine is AISI 304 stainless steel, resistance to earth is below 10 ohm, and it stands on a 4-wheel dolly with static dissipative wheels.
Up to two operators can work simultaneously on the same machine. The sanders come in 5" and 6" with PSA (self-adhesive), hook and loop or screen type abrasives, available in many grits. The vacuum can also be bought on its own, without the sanding kit.

What is included
Filters and recovery bags come with every version. Sanders, hoses, wye connector and multimeter come with the sanding kit versions (110264A to F), not with the vacuum only (110263). Hoses and filters are static conductive or static dissipative, so the ESD chain is unbroken.

Questions and answers
How is the sander driven?
The sander is driven by air from the vacuum. Compressed air runs from the compressor to the machine in the supplied 1/2" air hose of 15 metres, and from the machine on to the sander in the combined suction and air hose. The same hose carries the dust back from the sander to the machine. Only one air hose has to be run from the compressor.
How many people can sand at the same time?
Up to two operators can work simultaneously on the same machine. The supplied wye connector has two 1.25" (32 mm) hose shanks and comes with one plug.
What compressor does the SS-10 SK need?
Tiger-Vac specifies a compressor of at least 15 to 25 HP, 5.5 bar supply pressure and a 1/2" (12.7 mm) air line. The vacuum uses 21.2 L/s (1,272 Nl/min). Contact us and we will work out the total air consumption for the number of sanders you plan to run. Remember that the compressor is itself an ignition source and must stand outside the classified zone.
What does the marking II 2GD Ex h IIC T6 Gb mean?
II means equipment group II, i.e. everything except mines. 2GD is category 2 for both gas and dust, which corresponds to external Zone 1 for gas and Zone 21 for dust. Category 2 does not cover the inside of the equipment, i.e. Zone 0 and Zone 20, which requires category 1. Ex h is the type of protection for non-electrical equipment under EN ISO 80079-36. IIC is the most demanding gas group and also covers hydrogen and acetylene. T6 is the most demanding temperature class with a maximum surface temperature of 85°C, and Gb is the equipment protection level for gas corresponding to category 2.
What does the ATEX certificate cover?
The certificates LCIE 03 ATEX 6310 X and IECEx LCIE 17.0076 X cover the vacuum itself, a venturi vacuum with no electrical and no moving mechanical parts. The X means specific conditions of use: the machine must be earthed according to the manufacturer's instructions, and only accessories recommended by the manufacturer may be used. Which abrasives can be used?
The sanders come in 5" and 6". Abrasives are available as PSA (self-adhesive), hook and loop or screen type, and in many grits. A start-up kit of abrasives comes with the sanding kit versions.
Can the machine pick up liquids?
No. The SS-10 (4W) SK HEPA is built for dry recovery. If you also need to pick up liquids, look at the SS-10 (4W) RE HEPA (MRAC), which handles both wet and dry.
What is included?
