Why this hose?

CP PE 457 EC combines four properties that rarely sit together: clamp-profile construction for flexibility and compressibility (4:1), polyethylene liner for chemical resistance to a broad range of media, electrically conductive wall with resistance below 103 Ω, and ATEX 2014/34/EU conformity for Zone 0/1/2 (gases) and Zone 22 (dust) interior.

That combination makes it the standard choice on swivelling extraction arms and fume hoods in chemical laboratories and production halls. High compressibility means the hose can compress and extend as the arm is moved, without straining the wall mechanically. Conductivity means static electricity is dissipated from the inner medium — critical when vapours or dust may be flammable.

The normal temperature range is −35 °C to +80 °C, making the hose effectively a specialised solution for relatively low-to-medium temperature service. Where the application demands higher temperatures, CP VITON® 459 EC (Viton liner, up to +210 °C) is the technically direct continuation — same clamp-profile construction, same ATEX conformity, but with a heat-resistant FKM liner.

PE vs PTFE

PE (polyethylene) covers most industrial chemicals at normal temperatures and is a good middle option for moderate chemical requirements. PTFE (CP PTFE-INOX 475 EC) covers virtually all chemicals at high temperatures. Choose PE if your media are common solvents or acids/bases up to 80 °C; choose PTFE if you have aggressive media or higher temperatures.

Where it is used

The hose is built for mobile installations in classified zones — typically where a swivelling extraction arm moves during use. In practice it is most often seen on extraction arms in chemical laboratories, on fume hoods in pharmaceutical research, and on vapour return systems at fuel dispensing.

In industrial applications, it is used for powder handling in Zone 22 atmospheres, for gas transfer in chemical process plants, and for extraction of chemical vapours in production halls. The clamp-profile construction's flexibility is central — the hose lives where a rigid duct cannot move with the working positions.

It covers dimensions from Ø 50.5 mm up to Ø 630 mm, meaning it can be used both for small local extractions and for main systems across whole installations. Standard roll length is 6 m, and the hose can be cut to length.

The formal name is CP PE 457 EC. In daily use it is referred to as a "PE clamp-profile hose", an "extraction-arm hose" or simply "the conductive PE hose" — it most commonly sits on swivelling extraction arms in chemical laboratory work.

Note: Fields without a value (—) are not specified in the manufacturer's data sheet. Overpressure and underpressure are recommended operating limits; products can be subjected to higher loads on request. The bend radius is measured along the inside of the hose bend. Standards and compliance

The hose is tested and documented in compliance with the following standards:

  • ATEX 2014/34/EU (1999/92/EC) and TRGS 727. The hose's conductive PE lining meets the requirements for ATEX Zone 0/1/2 (gases) and Zone 22 (combustible dust). Correct grounding is a prerequisite.
  • PE lining's chemical resistance. Polyethylene is resistant to most industrial chemicals at normal temperatures -- acids, bases, solvents. For aggressive media or higher temperatures see the PTFE variant.
  • Highly flexible construction. 4:1 compressibility makes the hose ideal for extraction arms that move during operation. The clamp profile preserves the shape under compression.
  • Galvanised steel clamp profile. The external clamp profile provides structural stability and protection of the PE lining against external impact.
  • REACH (EC 1907/2006). EU regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals. The hose materials comply with REACH; a manufacturer declaration is available for download.
  • RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU). Restriction of Hazardous Substances -- restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances in products. The hose components comply with the RoHS limit values.

The hose is not food-grade approved and is not specified for flammable liquids. For flammable liquids see other ATEX-approved hoses.

Industries that use it

The hose is used in chemical industry and laboratory operations where ATEX and chemical resistance are combined.

In the chemical industry, the hose typically sits on extraction arms at laboratory benches and in production halls — where a combination of chemical resistance, flexibility and ATEX conformity is required. Zone 0/1/2 approval is decisive when the process generates flammable vapours.

In extraction and filtration, it features in central extraction systems where powder or dust is handled in Zone 22 atmospheres. In laboratories and pilot plants, it is used on fume hoods and local extraction stations.

The clamp-profile construction's 4:1 compressibility means the hose can be stored compactly (down to one-quarter of its extended length) — a concrete advantage on mobile workstations where space is constrained.

Custom lengths and assemblies

CP PE 457 EC can be cut to length and assembled with cuffs, ferrules and threads to fit your installation precisely. We supply finished hose assemblies with crimped ferrules, clamping cuffs or threaded connections depending on what the process requires.

For ATEX installations it is particularly important that couplings and assemblies preserve the hose's electrical continuity. The whole system has to dissipate static electricity to ground -- not the hose alone.

Frequently asked questions

Which chemicals can the hose handle?

It depends on the specific chemical and concentration. Our chemical resistance table shows the material's tolerance against acids, bases, solvents and oxidising agents. When in doubt, contact us with a specific media list.

How flexible is the hose?

The hose is highly flexible and can be compressed 4:1, making it particularly well-suited for extraction arms and moving installations. The clamp profile preserves the shape under compression -- the inner film follows without folding.

Is the hose ATEX approved?

Yes. The hose complies with ATEX 2014/34/EU and TRGS 727 for the zones specified by the ATEX marking. This means it may be used where flammable gases or dust are present -- provided correct grounding is in place.

Can I have the hose cut to length?

Yes. CP PE 457 EC is cut to your length and we advise on couplings compatible with the media the hose handles.

What is the lead time?

Standard variants are typically in stock with a few days' lead time. Special variants depend on the manufacturer's production -- we give you a precise date when you contact us.
