ATEX Combi vacuum cleaner

Tiger-Vac ATEX-12A (2+2W)

Pneumatic venturi vacuum for Zone 1 + Zone 21 (II 2GD) -- 2+2 wheel cart, 38 L dust tank, 28.5 L liquid capacity, HEPA H14, optimised for manoeuvring in confined areas

  • Confined areas in refineries and process plants where a 4-wheel dolly is too rigid
  • Operator-led housekeeping where the unit follows a single person around
  • Wet and dry recovery in Zone 1/21 where mobility matters more than maximum liquid capacity
  • Asbestos and lead housekeeping per OSHA and EN 1822 H14
  • Smaller process bays and pilot plants with multiple shifting work points

Tiger-Vac ATEX-12A (2+2W)

The Tiger-Vac ATEX-12A (2+2W) is the manoeuvring-oriented variant of the pneumatic ATEX-12A line -- the same II 2GD certification and the same drive specs as the 4W model, but mounted on a 2+2 wheel cart with 2 fixed front wheels and 2 swivel rear wheels for fast direction changes in confined areas. Liquid capacity is reduced to 28.5 L because of the different cart geometry, but the dust tank is still 38 L and the rest of the package is identical: pneumatic single venturi, AISI 430 stainless construction, HEPA H14 aerosol leak-tested, no electrical parts in the suction circuit.

Questions and answers

Why pneumatic and not electric?

In combined zones with both gas Zone 1 and dust Zone 21 electric drive is generally not allowed -- even ATEX-certified electric motors have hot surfaces and contact elements that can act as ignition sources under fault conditions. Pneumatic venturi drive has no moving electrical parts: the compressed air alone creates the vacuum through the venturi nozzle. That is the safest construction for Category 2 areas.

Which compressor do I need?

A minimum of 15 HP (about 11 kW) installed compressor capacity is recommended. The compressed-air supply must be 5.5 bar with a flow of 16.5–21.2 L/s (approximately 990–1272 Nl/min), fed through a 1/2" (12.7 mm) air hose. Refrigerant-dried air (PDP +3 °C or better) is recommended to avoid condensation in the venturi nozzles, and a separate pressure regulator (219841) ensures stable operation.

Can it pick up liquids?

Yes. The ATEX-12A (4W) is certified for wet and dry recovery -- 47.3 L liquid capacity with a dedicated liquid filter (211394) that engages automatically when liquid is detected. The unit also handles combustible liquids because venturi drive is spark-free. For dry-only recovery with automatic poly-liner emptying, see the 2+2W MR variant.

What is the difference between 4W, 2+2W and 2+2W MR?

Drive and filter specs are identical (187 m³/h, 38 L tank, 68 dB(A), HEPA H14). The difference is in cart configuration and recovery type: the 4W has a 4-wheel dolly and the largest liquid capacity (47.3 L). The 2+2W has 2 fixed plus 2 swivel wheels for better manoeuvrability but only 28.5 L liquid capacity. The 2+2W MR is dry recovery only and is supplied with a poly-liner system (212100S-5 + 213780 retainer plate) for safe disposal of the recovered material.

Why AISI 430 stainless steel rather than 304?

AISI 430 is ferritic stainless steel and is the alloy Tiger-Vac chose for the ATEX-12A series for its high magnetic reluctance and lower risk of electrochemical pitting in mild acid environments. AISI 430 has slightly lower corrosion resistance in chloride-rich environments than AISI 304 but is fully suitable for the typical industrial applications the ATEX-12A is designed for (housekeeping, asbestos, lead, silica, general combustible dust). For continuous chloride exposure, an AISI 304-based model is recommended instead.

Is the HEPA filter aerosol leak-tested?

Yes. Every ATEX-12A is supplied with HEPA filter 212304B-HD (99.99 % MPPS at 0.3 micron) and each machine is individually aerosol leak-tested at Tiger-Vac's factory before shipping. The filter is OSHA compliant and meets EN 1822 H14 class, which is required for asbestos, lead and other CMR substances. A test certificate accompanies the delivery on request.

Why is the weight not listed?

Tiger-Vac's factsheet for the 2+2W variant does not state weight or dimensions in its specifications table. We have therefore set the dimensions to 550 x 600 x 1020 mm based on cart estimates and noted the weight as not specified. Contact us for up-to-date figures if you are planning transport or lifting.
