Tiger-Vac CD-55L (DT) EX (MFS) 2D Z21

The Tiger-Vac CD-55L (DT) EX (MFS) 2D Z21 is a medium-size mobile dust vacuum for combustible dust -- marked II 1/2D to EN 17348 DT. The model has a 55 L detachable tank on a heavy-duty powder coated cart and uses a static-dissipative PTFE star-shaped main filter with 8 folds (218638). Manual Filter Shaker (MFS) mechanically shakes the filter clean without opening the machine. The three-phase TEFC motor (3.4 kW, 8 A) delivers 306 m3/h at 2540 mmH2O and tolerates continuous duty. HEPA filters can be added both upstream (215373A-02, 99.99 %) and downstream (212202, 99.995 % H14) for two-layer filtration. Wet recovery is available as an option -- contact us for advice on wet/dry accessories. A True Cyclone Separator at the suction inlet boosts recovery capacity.

Questions and answers

How does a PTFE star-shaped filter work?

The PTFE star-shaped filter (218638) is a star-shaped folded main filter with 8 folds. The star shape increases surface area compared to a flat filter of the same diameter, so airflow distributes over a larger area and the filter clogs more slowly. The PTFE coating means dust particles don't adhere as strongly as to an uncoated polyester filter -- so with Manual Filter Shaker the cake drops more easily into the tank. The star-shaped construction is also more durable under high flow rates and less prone to cracking from vibration. We recommend visual inspection every 250 operating hours and replacement at least annually.

What is the difference between upstream and downstream HEPA?

Upstream HEPA (215373A-02, 99.99 % @ 0.3 um) sits BEFORE the main filter in the airflow and acts as a pre-filter removing large particles before they reach the primary filter. Downstream HEPA (212202, 99.995 % H14) sits AFTER the main filter in the airflow and is the final filter before exhaust. The two HEPAs have different purposes: upstream protects the main filter and extends its life, while downstream protects the operator and environment from breakthrough. For pharmaceutical applications handling toxic active substances both HEPA options are combined for maximum safety. Contact us to select configuration.

Can it actually pick up liquids?

The brochure says 'Wet recovery available', but the CD-55L EX (MFS) 2D Z21 ships standard as a dry-only recovery unit (certified EN 17348 DT). Wet recovery is a configured option: the tank can be adapted, but wet recovery REQUIRES a float switch (anti-overfill) and a separate intermediate chamber, and this is not described in the standard brochure. We recommend you contact us with precise liquids and expected volumes before ordering so the correct wet/dry configuration can be specified. The ATEX II 1/2D certificate remains valid in wet operation only if the configuration is approved by the manufacturer.

Is it particularly suited for heavy dust?

Yes. The star-shaped PTFE filter (218638) combined with True Cyclone Separator at the suction inlet makes CD-55L particularly suited for dust forming heavier cakes (cement, gypsum, metal milling). The cyclone removes the heaviest particles by inertia before they reach the filter, significantly reducing filter load. For very fine or sticky dust (e.g. pharma fine powder) a CD-36L or CD-100L with dedicated cleaning mechanism is more suitable. For metal dust and construction dust CD-55L is a good choice.

What is included and what are options?

Standard includes: special main filter 218638 (PTFE star-shaped), manometer, complete Ø50 mm SD tool kit (crushproof hose 500540D, wand 500160, universal tool 500161A, crevice tool 500156B, dusting brush 501184A, conical nozzle 500230), ground-continuity multimeter 211065B, heavy-duty powder coated cart. Options: upstream HEPA (215373A-02), downstream HEPA H14 (212202), conductive poly liner (212100S, 40 L), poly-liner retainer plate (213780), wet recovery configuration. HEPA filters are aerosol leak tested before shipment.

What is the noise level, and why isn't it supplied with a muffler?

CD-55L delivers 75 dB(A) at normal operation without a dedicated muffler. This is higher than the CD-4 series (68 dB(A) with muffler) because CD-55L does not include a foam silencer as standard. If noise level is critical in your application, contact us for a retrofit muffler or upgrade to a variant with built-in silencing. When optioning downstream HEPA (212202) in external housing the filter housing itself acts as partial silencing and can reduce noise by approximately 2-3 dB(A).
