Highly flexible hoses

Hoses that follow when the installation moves. Flexibility is not a feeling but a measured quantity: the bending radius. These are the hoses in the range that bend most tightly without kinking.

A flexible hose is one that can be routed through a tight curve without collapsing, and that does not fight back when it has to be pulled or repositioned. That matters everywhere the hose does not sit still: extraction arms, robots, mobile industrial vacuums, hand-held extraction and anything that gets rolled out and packed away again.

The objective measure is the bending radius. It appears in the specification table on every product page and states how tight a curve the hose tolerates before the cross-section begins to deform. The lower the figure, the tighter the curve. Bending radius follows from wall thickness, the pitch between spiral windings and how hard the material is.

Flexibility is common across this range, which is why the list below is long. Use the bending radius and inner diameter filters on the left to narrow it down to what your installation actually needs.

Flexibility is measured in bending radius, not in feel

Two hoses can feel identical in the hand and still behave completely differently in the installation. The bending radius is the figure that makes the comparison meaningful: the smallest radius the hose can be bent to without the cross-section collapsing. Bent tighter than its specified radius, the free cross-section shrinks, air resistance rises, and the material fatigues faster precisely where the curve is tightest.

What makes a hose flexible

Three construction choices account for most of it. Wall thickness is the most important: a thinner wall bends more easily but withstands less vacuum and less wear. The pitch between spiral windings determines how tightly the hose can fold, and a closer spiral gives a sharper curve. Finally the hardness of the material matters; softer polyurethane bends more readily than harder grades, but wears faster at high particle velocities.

The price of flexibility

Flexibility is a trade-off, not a free property. The same thin wall that makes a hose easy to bend also makes it easier to crush and less resistant to negative pressure. Where a hose has to bend tightly and hold a strong vacuum, the answer usually lies in a closer spiral rather than a thinner wall. When choosing between two hoses it is therefore worth reading the bending radius and the vacuum figure side by side in the specification table.

Questions we hear often

What does bending radius mean?

It is the smallest radius the hose can be bent to without deforming the cross-section. The value appears in the specification table on every product page. A lower figure means the hose can be routed through a tighter curve.

What makes one hose more flexible than another?

Which hose suits a moving machine?

Choose for the tightest curve the hose will actually work in, and allow a margin. A hose bent constantly at or below its specified radius wears faster in exactly that spot. For extraction arms and robots a low weight is an advantage too, because the hose has to be accelerated along with the arm.

Can a flexible hose also be abrasion-resistant?

Yes, but it usually calls for a material other than the softest one. Abrasion resistance comes from the grade of the material and the wall thickness, and the two properties pull in opposite directions. Several hoses in the range combine both; use the filters to narrow down to those that carry both properties.
